Curious about \"Coach\" Donnan

I just got home. While in the car I had espn radio on, and they had Jim Donnan in the segment I heard.
I happen to think that JD is good on TV and radio, but what humors me is he and his sidekick refer to him as Coach. Not ex coach Donnan, but Coach. Donnan still calls himself coach! Is there an announcement coming up?
Just like he has a professional title like Dr.

I know that some ex coaches are addressed "Coach Soandso" out of fond respect, but has doogan earned this respect? No big deal, just thought I would share.

Re: Curious about \"Coach\" Donnan

I think it's because he is a coach by nature. Lee Corso is still referred to as "The Coach" sometimes even though he hasn't coached in twenty years. He wasn't anything special either as a coach. He won around 40% of his games.

Re: Curious about \"Coach\" Donnan

I think its customary to call a former or current coach "Coach". I've always done it, even to an old coach I know who won maybe 20% of his games.

Cool.

I use to coach little league. I will now refer to myself as coach, but only when I address myself.
By the way, I will also address Mr. Donnan as "coach" out of pure gratitude from this yellow jacket fan. Give 'em hell, Coach D! I am pulling for you if that vpi job ever opens up. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rockon.gif

You're right on with it. I still call my old coaches "coach". Everyone else around here do too. Just the way it is.

Re: Curious about \"Coach\" Donnan

I actually think Donnan is a pretty good coach. He had an uphill battle after taking over for coach Goof over at UGAg, who was a terrible coach. We did manage to get the three in a row from him, but they were hard fought games. Hell, we SHOULD have the last 2 in a row over Richt. I think our day is coming on that.

Donnan left a real good base of recruiting for Richt. I heard him in and interview state one time about how hard it was to redshirt David Greene - who he knew was the future QB at UGAg. Richt cam along and got the benefit of that decision.

I honestly think that UGAg was set up for the run they are on by Donnan and a slightly weakened SEC. Donnan was playing Tennessee, Florida and us at our peaks and it was hard to overcome.
