Cutcliffe and cut blocks

why dive at ankles rather than staying upright? Had our guy had the AGI, he could've side-stepped or leap-frogged that crap and made the play. I.E. What Clemson players do when we do that crap.
 
That's not a cut block per the rules because the initial contact is above the waist.

From the NCAA rules, according to sbnation.com article on cut blocking:
"A blocker who makes contact above the waist and then slides below the waist has not blocked below the waist."
 
They called an illegal cut block on us earlier in the game for being outside the tackle box and not-cutting head on. Then they allowed that a few drives later on 3rd and 8 for them.
 
I'm sure all the talk/whining about our offense and cut blocking causes the refs to focus more on those rules when our offense is on the field

You're right. Why take a man down and score a touch down when you can do something else.
