I thought I would make a list of my National Title dark horses. Here they are!

1. Hawai'i - I think Hawai'i is just going to kick ass this year. Yes they are in the WAC, but I think if they blow out everyone on their schedule, which is very very likely and then beat Boise State to win the WAC crown, they might just be going to the BCS Title game. Their QB Brennan is probably one of the best in the nation and is a senior with 3 years experience under his belt. He has an arsenal of fantastic receivers that when combined with his passing ability make for a lethal passing attack. Look for Hawai'i to go undefeated during the regular season and be in serious consideration for a spot in the BCS Title Game. Playing with them in addition to GT on NCAA 08 will be a lot of fun!!!

2. GT - Tech is on my list because: 1) I'm a homer fan and 2) we honestly look like a dark horse from a neutral standpoint.
Our D will be solid, our O will be superb with a lethal rushing attack in the combination of TC and our O-line (ranked in the top 10 in the nation by many publications), a consistent qb to faciliate the passing game (the Gator Bowl is evidence enough), and a new O-Coordinator (007) who was the O-Coordinator of a team (Northern Illinois) who had an amazing rushing attack anchored by a back who was mentioned in the heisman race for quite awhile. This is an excellent combination for a title run. We will be undefeated going into our game with VPI, which will have title implications since they will be undefeated as well. If we beat VPI, we will most likely be in the top 10 (somewhere like 7 or 8) and our only obstacle ending the regular season would be Georgia, which we will win b/c of previously mentioned factors. Look for us to be in the title picture if we are to defeat VPI in Novemeber, which certainly is plausible. After we beat VPI, we will enjoy winning the rest of our regular season games and will most certainly beat Maryland (my choice for Atlantic champ) in the ACC title game in JAX, then we will most definitely will be a legitimate choice for the BCS title game. Now this mention of this game between GT and VPI leads me to my final dark-horse contender...

3. VPI - VPI is my final dark-horse contender because of their amazing defense, which is even better than ours. (and that is saying a lot!) VPI like us will begin the season with a huge bang and will also be undefeated going into their game against us. If they are to beat us, they will be in the top 5 maybe 3 or 4, which will catapult them into the national championship picture, following that they will win out and beat Maryland in the ACC Title game in JAX. After that there will be little debate who will be in the BCS Title game. Like I said above, the GT/VPI could potentially be for who gets to go to the BCS Title game and certainly will be for who gets to go the the ACCCG.

No way Hawaii could ever be ranked high enough to have the BCS rating to make the championship game.

I don't exactly think that you could call VT a dark horse either given their ability to always stay in the mix over the last decade.

If VT wins at LSU (I think they will) they could/should be undefeated coming to the ATL and raked in the top 3. BUT, they still have FSU, MIA, and at UVA after GT so they could easily lose 3 games in November.

I'll take ARK as a contender. They play three tough road games but they are spread out and they should be able to run on Bama quite well early on. They don't play GA or FL in the East and their OOC is very easy.

I am not one to say things like "we are a national title contender just because I am a Tech fan" but this years teams has a shot. I agree VThug game will make or break us. If we win that game we can beat anyone. VThug is still a question mark on offense in my book but there defense is top notch. I think we have the edge since we are the home team though. I also think if we do crack the top 10 Choice will be the key. I think he has a shot to lead the nation in rushing. :fingersx:

Hawaii plays TWO I-AA teams this year. There fans ought to lynch that AD.

I agree with you knox about the AD, but I watched a show earlier in the summer that stated no body was willing to play UH this year therefore making them schedule patsies. Their QB stated how that was going to hurt him because of playing against crappy competition

Isn't there a rule in place stating only 1 I-AA game may be counted towards your record? Wouldn't that leave them short of the required games?

I don't recall Hawaii ever playing any defense either.
With their offense, they hardly need to.

But let me point out that Hawai'i will have to blow everyone out including Boise State to be mentioned in the BCS Title race. I honestly think they will do just that. However, if they do go undefeated but not blow everyone out then they will not be considered for the title game, maybe for an at-large birth in a BCS bowl, but not the title game.

As far as D, they had Jerry Glanville as the DC the past 2 years. This year he took a HC job at Portland State so they have a new DC.

They have 12 games. One won't count. I've always rooted for Hawaii myself. Love watching that offense. I feel bad for their players though, with a decent schedule and Brennan at the helm they might have had a shot to be this year's Boise State, but not with that schedule.

In the games I watched last year, Hawaii played an aggressive hard hitting defense typical of Glanville teams. The problem was they did not have the athletes to compete against major competition. I think losing Glanville will be big minus them. I wish our defense was as physical as Hawaii was last year. Still, they have a great quarterback.
