I know I'm way late on this thread, but can anyone sell me on this guy. I'm not against this guy, I just don't really know much about him.

Sou Miss had very good defenses when he was DC, Arkansas did as well until they fell apart in his third year (the whole team). Nutt fired him to save his own butt. He came back to Sou Miss this year and took over about half way through I believe when the new DC had health issues. He plays a high pressure defense, sort of like Tenuta but with more man coverage.

Thanks for the info. One thing though; May be a little slow on the uptake, but how did firing Wommack save Nutt's a**? was it simply an implicit statement that it was Wommack's fault.

I read that that Nutt was on the hotseat with the fans and AD, and the AD gave him an ultimatum to make serious changes within the staff to appease the fan base. Wommack, the DC, ended up being the primary sacrifice, and Nutt was quoted as saying that particular fire was "the hardest decision he's ever had to make."

Unfortunately, I don't think we'll be able to get a real good look at his defense at the Spring Game, since he'll be playing against PJ's offense

True, and that is another worry for the D no matter who the coordinator is. I know they'll be facing the opponent's O with the scout team in practice, but they'll lose a lot of time against the more conventional offenses going against the first team O.

Gailey started doing it often towards the second half of this year, after the Maryland and UVA losses. I could be wrong, but I don't think he did it often previously.

All depends on how the coach runs practice. Gailey did it often.

They'll go against our offense (1'st, 2'nd, 3'rd teams) all of spring and a lot of the summer. They will also go against our first and second team offense in drills during the season (inside drill, 2-minute drill, goalline drill, etc.). It will be a factor. I know our coaches have some ways to combat this though. It's a problem at any school with an unconventional offense whether it's Texas Tech, UF, or Navy. I've seen articles and clinics by coaches on this. I remember one "How to have a good run defense in a pass happy program". It was by a UF defensive coach when Spurrier was there. At the rate college football is going though, soon the majority of schools will have unconventional offenses. I guess that would mean that unconventional offenses would then be conventional. :blahblah:
