I'm surprised that we haven't read anything yet that U.T. has called Cutcliffe for a Head Coaching interview. HC Phillip Fulmer is struggling just to keep their heads above water.
I'm curious about Cutcliffe. Does anyone have any knowlege of his compensation package at Duke. Surely it would not be equal to what UT would offer.
All this is purely speculation that if UT were to want to replace Fulmer and hire Cutcliffe.
I haven't heard any rumors to this, but just wondered about it.

Keep in mind that it's about time for the annual "Phil Fulmer has his back against the wall" tail kicking. They've got UGAg and Bama up in the next four weeks, so I'm guessing they hand it to UGAg so that Phil keeps his job for one more year.

I think UT will set their sights much higher than Cutcliffe.
I dunno...most of the fans over there are now crediting Cutcliffe for the success they've had.

Also, who else would be available this year that would be "setting the sites higher" than Cut?

Maybe Jim Grobe or Bobby Johnson.

I agree. Their most recent successes have been tied to Cutcliffe's offensive talent.

Maybe he's not big time head coach material, but realistically I don't think he'd be a bad option for UT.

Cutcliffe is too old.
Many UT fans don't like him. Many thought he was terrible last year.
Many aren't impressed with his stint at Ole Miss.
UT fans want better.

I can't believe UT fans want Fulmer gone. He went to the SEC championship game last year. He led them to a national title. Crazy...

Phat Phil's not going anywhere right now. He just signed a huge contract. They'll let the year play out at LEAST.

Tennessee, if they fire Phil, would certainly talk to Cutcliffe. But I think they would talk to the usual suspects too (Chow, Grobe, Strong, USF's coach, etc). They may even try to take a look at Vandy's Johnson.

But I don't know if they will dump Phil just yet. Putting him out to pasture will cost a lot, even by TN standards. I think they are more likely to try an find him a qualified OC.

I forget, how long did Chan stay after we went to the ACCCG?

I guess it depends on how bad this year gets. UT hates Alabama deeply. A thrashing at the hands of 'bama could put Phil in pretty hot water.

The reason for my wondering is that last Saturday, many of the people were leaving the game WAY too early. Looked like a definite sign of disgust.
One other thing is; UT people have very little patience. They've been known to park a moving van in front of your house if they get dissatisfied with you.

Apparently every team in the SEC east has a bye week before playing Tennessee this year.

Wow.

That's some pretty dumb luck.

UT has a ton of patience. I'm willing to bet that they have the longest average coaching tenure of any SEC team (football).

Phat Phil has been there since the early 90's. I'm guessing that, other than Auburn, every SEC team has had at least 2 coaches since UT hired Phil. And he has brought, what, 2 SEC Championships maybe 3.

Every major opponent does (have the off week before UT). I checked after I read that because I knew UGA had a bye before us and I thought there was only one bye in a 12 game season. Obviously there are two and UGA has one this weekend.

I don't know what to think. The guy won a MNC. That has to count for something. And they have not enough talent in state so they have to work hard to snag players out from under those players' home state schools. LSU, UGA,UF and probably the alabama schools can win a MNC just with in state players.

I think UT fans know this and fear the downside so they have shown patience in the past.

On the other hand, it is kinda obvious that he isn't the same without Cutcliffe. He is 66-29 (69%) without Cutcliffe as OC and 82-19 (81%) with. Bowl record with Cutcliffe as OC 5-3. Without only 2-4 with one year with no bowl. With Cut they finished the season ranked every year and without him on staff they were AP unranked 3 out of seven years.

Cut leaves and they drop like a brick once again.
