Do we really need all these DB's we are signing? I assume so of them will switch positions...
 
Oops wrong spot earlier. Yes, we need all these DB'S. We have an experienced D backfield right now.
 
never hurts to have talented signees....hell Oliver is pretty big already, he could grow into a linebacker
 
These guys will all be gone after 2017 season:

Safety - Corey Griffin (starting SS for bowl game)
Safety - Shaun Kagawa (#2 SS for bowl game)
CB - Step Durham (starting CB for bowl game)
CB - Lance Austin (starting CB for bowl game)
CB - Lawrence Austin (starting nickel for bowl game)

And these guys will be gone after 2018:

Safety - AJ Gray (starting FS for bowl game)
CB - Jalen Johnson (#2 nickel for bowl game)
CB - Lamont Simmons (#2 CB for bowl game)

We signed 6 would-be DB's in 2015, three of which were Wigley, Dotson, and Walker who have all transferred. Curry has been playing LB. Only AJ Gray and Christian Campbell remain. Both are FS's.

In 2016, we only took 2... Jarrett Cole and Ajani Kerr. neither one are very big, so I think they are corners.

So yes, we need DB's.

Wow, I can't believe that these guys are going to be seniors next year. Time flies!

Thanks for typing that up! I don't think I realized how many of those guys will be gone a year from now. It's going to suck saying goodbye to the Austin brothers in particular.
 
Oliver's film and strengths make me think OLB is the most likely destination. Swilling is a rangier CB, Askew is smaller/quicker CB, Bonds looks like a FS. Carpenter might be a SS/OLB guy as well. Not sure about Williams. Think we did really well with the DB/LB classes - about as good as we can hope for really. Looks like we missed in the top guys at DL but did okay. Someday we'll sign some good DL classes again.
 
We need as many Swillings on defense as we can get. Offense is much easier to plug and play for us. If seems like every time we have a decent offense we have a terrible defense and vice versa. Need to improve on D under CPJ while maintaining his offensive production.

At that point, we've already said "öööö it" to the rules about illegal cut-blocking, why not just throw two or three more guys on the field, go with the 0-7-8? With Ron Cherry busy looking to see if the camera is on him, we'll probably get away with it enough to justify the formation.
