The Stanford female population resembles the GT female population, but it's a great school that opens lots of doors. The biggest difference, though, is the major he'll be allowed to pursue.

If you're an athlete 100% in it for academics, why not plan to start at School A, redshirt, then transfer to School B as a graduate student. Two degrees, two alumni associations, no cost. Start at GT or ND (good schools that allow football players to have real majors) then go to Stanford for a graduate degree.
