I'm going to ask a question, and please don't take this the wrong way...but wasn't it an accepted fact that Paul Johnson would not be hired and wasn't even under consideration (according to dems)? Was this just smoke or what?

My guess is that PJ has always been interested but DRad bristled at paying a much higher salary and his buyout along with Chan's buyout. He's a money guy first and foremost and thought WM was an up and coming coach that Tech could have gotten a really good deal on. Then, big donors stepped in and paid the money to make sure PJ could happen.

I also would like to thank Dem for his info. These things must have really sucked before the internet.

Yup.

It's also marginally curious that Wes Durham addressed the whole First-Choice Muschamp thing on the radio today and called it an internet rumor with no basis in fact.

But hey, you gotta pick who you believe I guess.

I think even if DRad himself cleared everything up, people would still speculate.

But yeah, thanks dem--part of the reason I joined this board.

One other thing to take into consideration is that when dem said that stuff it was before the Army-Navy game, and I think Paul played it very close to the vest before that, and immediately went to Atlanta afterwards. I don't remember his name being connected with SMU before that either. They take that game pretty seriously.
