THE FLATS - Georgia Tech football coach Paul Johnson announced Wednesday the addition of transfer Desmond Branch, who has signed a National Letter of Intent and will enroll for the upcoming semester.

Branch is a 6-foot-3, 270-pound defensive end that redshirted at the University of New Mexico in 2014 before transferring to Trinity Valley Community College outside of Dallas to play this past season. At TVCC, Branch logged 32 tackles, 10 tackles for loss and a team-leading seven sacks.

A native of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, Branch was a first-team All-State and All-District defensive end his final two seasons at Cleveland High School. Branch has three brothers, and his older brother Alan is a starting defensive lineman for the New England Patriots.

Branch, believed to be the first Yellow Jacket in the modern era to hail from New Mexico, is immediately eligible to play and has three years of eligibility remaining.

I didn't know it was possible to get a sack from the DE position.

His brother plays for the Pats, where James Liipfert is in charge of scouting. Wonder if we got a little old boy help there?

I'm assuming we're trying to transition him to a DT? 270 is big for a DE.

This will be interesting to see how he does.I don't know much about NewMex fball but my guess it will be a yr at least before he contributes. good genes though
