:eek:It appeared to be the death knell to me.
Furman Bisher has written for the AJC For a long, long time. He's always been a Ga Tech supporter & a highly regarded journalist. He's respected by every Tech fan & especially the Tech people that matter. Somebody has leaked something to Bisher & he's passing it along to the Rambling Wreck football fans. Furman put this column in the Sunday paper that's delivered all over the state of Georgia.

Bisher starts with the headline 'This Tech script could finish off Gailey'. The 1st sentence starts "Georgia Tech has trouble". He mentions Coach Gailey's 'mediocre record' & that Gailey's job may be saved by beating Duke & North Carolina to avoid a losing ACC record, which would also get Tech to another unpopular Bowl. Selah.

I read that article, but I didn't remember reading anything that was leaked. I was under the impression that the whole thing was just his opinion? Anyone here could tell you that going 7-5 may extend Gailey's season.

I think you're assuming a lot Ace. He's just saying it might save his job. I don't see anything there that leads me to believe he knows anything.

Twenty years ago Furman stopped getting the inside word from Tech sources. Bisher is a renaissance man, covering with exceptional talent the entire sports scene--but he is also part time now-and up in years. This article was written not from leaked facts, but simply his learned opinion. He does indeed know Georgia Tech--probably better than any writer left alive. If you can dig up his pieces immediately after Bud Carson was fired, when Bob Jones died, or when O'Leary left for Notre Dame it will be well worth your time.
But this column is Bisher telling what Bisher thinks. Make no mistake, he is still connected to the "Old Guard", still connected to dozens or perhaps hundreds of former football players. His ear is always to the ground, as he is an old school reporter. He is re-stating the obvious because now it has become so obvious. His admiration for Tech football is based upon his 50 year observation and some lifelong personal associations. What I take from this specific writing is that he has come to his own personal conclusion that the facts now warrant Gailey's dismissal. Bisher is from a time where you can't just come out and call for someone's head--and his style wouldn't allow that either. But he still reads the tea leaves on matters of Tech football as well as anyone. The column is a less-than-subtle nudge to anyone who might still somehow be on the fence.

Yukon....

I think you're a big asshole....

But I'm in complete awe of your post. Sir, this post is extremely well written and thought out. And absolutely correct.

Maybe you're not such a big asshole.......

GTL, this sounds like the judge in "My Cousin Vinney" right before he denied Vinney's motion. :laugher:

If Gailey goes 7-5 and keeps his job you are going to see outrage the likes of which only maybe Bill Lewis has ever incurred.

Since 7-5 would be an impossible conclusion to the season, the above arguments are moot. If we beat UNC and Duke plus a bowl game, we'll be 8-5 and Chan will be back. 7-6 could go either way and anything worse will lead to a new coach. Winning out with a 9-4 record with a win over UGA and you won't be able to find a coach other than Terry Bowden who would touch the job.

A bowl game is "post-season" so it would be naturally implied that the season is 12 games.

We've been through this a thousand times, with threads, polls, etc, and we all know he has to win out (including Georgia) to stay. It's dumb to talk about further.

I was thinking almost the same thing. I would have probably used the word jerk or something lesser than what you did but as little as I migth have thought of yukon befor that post, it was pure brilliance.

Thanks for posting this Yukon, we need more like this from you.

I don't think he can save his job. I think best case scenario this is a Goff job and he is carried off his players shoulders at BDS on Nov. 24th which speculation rampant that he had coached his last game at GT.

He will be fired Nov. 26th at the latest IMO. He put the nail in the coffin last week.

Stop and think about what you're saying, thwg.

If he wins the next 3, he definitely earns a chance at winning the bowl. If he posts 2 consecutive 9 win seasons at tech, including a win over UGA, he won't be fired no matter how badly we got blown out on last Thursday.

If Tech fires a coach after 2 consecutive 9 win seasons we will never, ever, find a replacement coach worth a crap. We can easily justify replacing him if he loses 5 games regular season, though, or if he loses 5 in a row to Georgia.

It's dumb to talk about further.

My sources in Nashville say that GT and the Titans have worked out a coaching trade. We will secretly replace Gailey with Chow for a year. DRad will film Boddy Dodd and access the results.

Man, 790 ripped Bisher a new one this morning, in a bit they did about the article. Made their "laugh tracks" cut.

Too funny.

Fact of the matter is, if Gailey wins out, he's good with me for another year. Fer sure.

If he wins the next 2 and loses to UGAg then I hope he decides to retire.

If he loses 2 of the next 3 then he needs to go immediately.

This is not only wise, it is fair. If we get a lot of folks off the injury list (we have a number that are playing hurt - especially on D) good things could happen. And if DRad can come up with the money, Chan could do with some more coaching help next year. Wouldn't it be a hoot if Chan pulls a Beamer or Tubberville?
