The person leaking a lot of UMich coaching search business to the press has likely been, sadly, Desmond Howard, one of the members of the 6-panel committee to find a new head coach. I'll provide more details if you're curious, but given that it's a GT board, I'll keep this to a minimum unless anyone's truly curious. It's not 100% backed by concrete facts, but some coincidental events that took place likely point the finger at Howard.

I'm impressed with the we handled our coaching search situation at GT. Professional, quiet, and relatively covert.

Ok, I will bite. So, WreckTheRest, WHAT exactly happened lately with Desmond Howard and the coaching search?

Now, for less sarcasm, I agree with you completely. Everyone thought this was the wrong year to fire CG due to the huge coaching carousel this year. However, I couldn't be happier with our pick and how we handled the coaching search situation.

It's from my father, who between his electrical engineering consulting, living in Ecuador for the hell of it, and following UMich football (alma mater), somehow put this together from access to internet media.

Maybe I'm biased, but I think he might of hit it on the head or at least he's on to something.

This is really something,

Yesterday, Snyder from the Detroit Free Press wrote about the conversation that took place about U of M President Coleman, AD Martin, and Les Miles. I essentially wrote in the comments section pertaining to Snyder's article "based upon Snyder's confidential source" that I did not appreciate him releasing such information which I thought would become another slap in the face to Michigan, in other words, putting Miles in the position before the big game, forcing him (once again) to make Michigan look bad, and not allowing Michigan to pursue someone confidentially. (this was at about 5:00 am yesterday) The comment section continued, only one guy questioned me, several others agreed. By late that morning, ESPN, Foxsports were all quoting his article and of course later in the afternoon Miles re-affirmed once again that he is with LSU, and all news reporting agencies quoted Snyder's article. I requested he retract it immediately which he did not.

This morning at 2:30 am (yes it is the first thing I do before work) he wrote another article following up on his previous article recapping what happened.

I pointed out that Les Miles learned from recent history about making dramatic and hasty news announcements, but it Michigan had not.
I pointed out that Pellini left for Nebraska with no leaks, the Falcons coach left with no leaks...

And I thought Michigan learned too....but...... Michigan seems to have a leak, Snyder's confidential source, and the only "source" was also a friend of Kirk Herbstreit. And that source it appears wants either Debord or English hired (current UMich coaching staff), and that source has to be someone on the 6 member coach selection committee, no one else could know. (and I felt the source had to be someone fairly stupid with an agenda, perhaps Desmond Howard)

So I ended my comments (being a smart ass) in Snyder's online article asking if Les Miles was now part of the selection committee based upon Miles response yesterday knowing what Snyder knows from his contact/source.

And I asked Snyder next time he talks to Desmond Howard, if he could please indicate when Debord or English will be promoted, and as a loyal fan, I would support either one 100%.

(Howard is the only football player on the six member committee, the only person that could possibly have given Kirk Herbstreit the information about Miles going to Michigan, that Kirk would inherently trust since they work together sometimes, and that would have made Kirk confident enough to say that on national TV that Miles was going to Michigan, and the only person stupid enough to talk to Snyder about the confidential Miles phone call last week... the only person who has an agenda).

When I went back to post this information and check to see if anybody agreed with me at around 5:30 am this morning, the Detroit Free Press erased all of the comments from all of Snyder's articles and this is the first time since December 2 that I have seen this happen.

And if you read another article today about Osborne (Nebraska) hiring a personnel agency to find his new coach and Martin did not, www.freep.com.

I really am infuriated ... and why am I the only one who has now figured this out

Sounds reasonable. I had heard a report earlier that Desmond Howard was on the search committee, but what would his 'agenda' be?

Hmmm... not sure... Maybe endear himself to Herbstreit, get more TV/ESPN reporting time if he impresses the right people because Howard has appeared as an on-air sports analyst if I'm not mistaken... not sure what he means in the email. When I talk to him again I'll let you know.

Or maybe Howard just thinks it's cool to be the insider...ha.
