Appalachian State - 3 straight national titles
Valdosta State - 2 titles in 4 years
Mount Union - 2 wins, 1 loss in 3 title games (3 yrs in a row)

Now, granted, GSU beat App St....so that makes us the REAL national champions :P

But, you dont really see this happening as of late in DIA, opinions as to why?

Proven winners can recruit, even moreso in lower divisions, where the choices are between winning in Div 1AA, 2, and 3, and not playing on a Div 1 team or playing on a losing one.

In short, players want to play and win.

All IMHO...Mike

I think there is more parity at the top level, so no, I don't think we'll see anything like that any time soon.

What about the team that VSU beat, NWMST had been 3 straight years only to lose all of them.

Hmmmm! sounds familiar

Because without a playoff, it is pretty random who gets to play in the national championship game. Unless you're the Patriots, even the most dominant team in football will have an off day, lose two or three games in their three seasons of dominance, and because of that they will miss out on getting a shot to play for the title two of those years. In a playoff at the end of the year, you see almost no "off days" from great teams. I know people say "regular season is a playoff, blah blah blah", but that's simply not the same because the regular season is when you learn to play together, and there are 12 games in it and you just can't get up every week for 12 games like you can for four playoff games.

Of all those national championships you listed, go back and eliminate any in which the winner was not seeded #1 or #2, because in 1A they would not have gotten to play in the championship game. You will see a lot less dominance when you look at it that way.
