Diversity helped Tech win another big football game last week against the Univ. of Miami. The players on Tech’s football team mirror our society, and are diverse the way our society is. The players get to experience other players that mirror our diverse society, and this helps them play more as a team and appreciate their fellow players.

It is too bad that ALL of the sports teams at Georgia Tech can not learn this simple lesson. Certainly the Men’s Basketball team is not diverse, too bad.

Please go play in traffic Jeff. We all thought you were gone, but apparently not. I am now a little bit dumber for reading this post. Go Jackets!

LOL...am I to assume on the basis of the replies......

..that I was wise to have left JEFF on perma-ignore?

Oh, my word.

The players on our football team 'mirror our society' in very few ways.

First of all, in Georgia, roughly 65% of our citizens are caucasion, about 15% are black, about 15% are hispanic and the rest asian or whatever. I didn't look the figures up, but they aren't far off. Our football team is probably about 75% black.

Secondly, what percentage of society even goes to college? Maybe 25%? What percentage goes to Georgia Tech? Maybe 0.5%?

And out of that percentage how many are top class athletes?

The players are here because they wanted to come here and worked hard enough on both academic and athletic skills for GT to want them. Diversity had nothing to do with anything.

If you don't know who JEFF is, look for his post back during the NCAA tourney. I wasted my time figuring out some statistics, and he never replied.

p.s. I chose this picture because I think it looks a lot like JEFF.

Let me explain something:

"Diversity is our strength" is a platitude. Excellence is a strength, and if it is accompanied by diversity that is coincidental. By the way, Winston Smith, did you also know that Ignorance is Strength, Freedom is Slavery and 2+2=5? Just because people in power repeat something enough times with enough force and conviction, that doesn't make it true. Remember that. Unity and team chemistry can certainly be strengths, but diversity does not facilitate these things. In fact, diversity is an obstacle to these things, and if our team has unity, it is because they've overcome some problems that are inherent in 'diversity'.

If I had a maxim I could force down the throat of everybody via media repetition, it would be: "Sometimes it is okay if the Truth makes people feel uncomfortable."

JEFF has posted on this and ONLY this topic before. He's like the head of NAAWP Stingtalk chapter or something.

Do not feed the trolls.

He is a staple of the basketball forum. He doesn't like the fact that we have so many black players.
