Do we need to rethink the ND game?

I believe we can win it, but we sure will not be favored. But what is the point? We beat Auburn and that meant nothing to the acc. So if we lose the acc will hold it against us even more. Who in the acc plays, year in and out, OOC games like we do?

If we are going to play tough schedules, then we need to do more to help our kids. They work hard, and they deserve it.

I see your point, and agree that its a basis for a good debate. However, think of it another way. If we had played an ncsu type of OOC foe instead of AU, we would be staying home.

I always felt that our last 2 games this year were going to be so much more than any bowl game. And they were.

I don't think you will get any argument from anyone that the acc has a record of screwing us, but they also do it to others outside of RTP and Whoville.
Obviously, the best formula is to win all the conference games and tell Swofford to shove it.

As far as dumping ND, no way. We need exciting opponents for home games. As is proven every year, only the hard core Tech fans have any interest in showing up for the majority of our conference brethren.

Next year's home slate looks like a scalper's dream, doesn't it?
UM
duke
umd
Uva...Who did I miss?
Outside of ND, the blood won't really be boiling.

samford and troy.

Looks like we'll have 4 "big" home games with ND, Miami and to a lesser exsting Maryland and UVA.

So it appears we should have 4 wins at home AT LEAST, troy, samford, duke, and Umd (unless they've got some great talent coming in, seems like they're just slipping downhill).

A hellish road schedule again though, with Mutts, Clemson, VT, and UNC which tripped us up last year.

P_Watch,

Troy will also be on the home schedule in 2006 ...just adds support to your point.

Also, we have a two-year deal with Army starting in '07. ('07 @ GT, '08 @A)

...to slow on the draw, RP beat me to it ...forgot about Samford.

FWIW, ND is losing 6 of its top 8 offensive lineman (4 starters).

And Brady Quinn will have a tough decision as he'll be one of the top 2 or 3 QBs if he comes out THIS year. I doubt he'll come out early but his stock is pretty high right now.

Not that I have really followed ND, but that kind of loss along the OL should be considerable.
I know that Weiss is pumping him up. Based on what you said, why would you doubt that he would leave this year?...
..Heisman thoughts?

I work with a Notre Dame grad and everything coming out of their camp on the subject is that Quinn is staying. My co-workers opinion is that his draft stock will increase with one more year under Weis.

I don't necessarily buy it. He will certainly improve (skillwise) with one more year but how much more can you improve (draftwise) when you'll likely be 2nd or 3rd QB taken already? Edit: Another consideration is that many of the NFL teams with early draft picks will need QBs - the Jets (if Reggie Bush is already gone), the Dolphins, the Bills, the Browns, the Lions, and maybe the Saints & Titans)

I'll probably talk to Brady or at least his sister (if they dont get time to come home) when I am home over Christmas. I cannot imagine him leaving this year, but it is a tough decision.

He'll almost definitely just take out a huge insurance policy and come back. I'll let you know what he says.

It will hurt Quinn's stock once the NFL teams realize Charlie Weiss won't be coaching him anymore.
