I just read the "Tech Vent" and "UGA Vent" in the AUC.com. The messages on BOTH vents were mostly from mutts. I'm really getting tired of their crap and got to thinking what it might be like if we quiting scheduling them across the board.

Would that be good or a mistake?
Would it really matter?
It is akin to (as bad as) leaving the SEC?
Who might we play the the slot they currently occupy?
What do you think about it?

This would be a disaster for Tech particularly in football where you are starved for traditional rivalries. Georgia would do just fine - we'd give Clemson your slot. We've got too many rivals now trying to get us in the crosshairs. Not to be arrogant but you need us more than we need you. And we can't be replaced. And on another note let's try to turn down this hate stuff. Its turning into tribal warfare. Believe it or not it is just a game and there are more important things in the world. Can't we all just get along ?

I'd never be in favour of breaking the rivalry... but to think that Tech wouldn't have plenty of old rivals clammoring to take a shot at that slot is just plain ignorant... remember MeluvUgag... TECH was a dominating force in the old southern conference and in the original SEC... We reopen our long rivalry with Auburn next season, and many fans here on North Ave. would love to see us compete on a more regular basis with Alabama, UT, or LSU...
Rivalries and strength of schedule are conflicting concepts that AD's struggle to come to terms with. For instance, Navy, a traditional TECH rival was a dominating force in college football for 40 years... students, alum and families established traditions of going to Annapolis every other year for a variety of reasons... now Navy is no longer a strong opponent but the traditional rivalry exists so should TECH keep them as a regular opponent to continue a fun, tradition laden trip to Maryland or should the AD abandon a long tradition and seek stronger opponents on the ever changing college football landscape? Not an easy question...
My point is that UGag and TECH have a rivalry that makes no sense for either school to stop...
There are so many things that create rivalries, the football game is merely an extension of the rivalry... I mean it's not often that the employees can get one up on the boss... So every once in awile when UGag wins the little workers can sit and gloat in their cubicles...

GO JACKETS!!! clip the doggies!!!

"Not to be arrogant"

Well you just were, typical foy y'all.

We don't *need" UGA anymore than you *need* us. The arguement could be made that we'd both be better off without this game if we use your reasoning: That Tech will automatically lose 7 out of 10 years. Under that reasoning, if Tech didn't have that in-state loss all the time our in-state recruiting would be better, and UGA would have that extra game so as not to play "weak" old Tech.

Of course, that is using your logic where Tech loses 7 of 10 games.

I hope you "are man enough" to come back after next Saturday when Tech has won the last FOUR of FIVE and UGA won't have a win vs. Tech at Sanford for EIGHT years.

You honestly think we could be replaced by Clemson? Hate to tell you but GEORGIA TECH owns CLEMSON. Nice upgrade pal.

Arrogant and ignorant to boot.

Personally, I could not envision a season without the rival game. Conference or non conference,it doesn't matter. Tech/Ga. is huge for me, and it has always been.
My 12 yo daughter attended a cheerleading camp at Tech during 2 a days for for the Jackets. It gave me goose bumps hearing the "To Hell with Gorgia" chants coming from the players on Rose Bowl Field. Once you have played at Tech, or just have been there, you will never lose the emotion this game brings out.

I don't give a crap about what mutt fans say about this game. In a "game" sense, they hate us, and we hate them. From a player perspective, this one cuts deep. Nov. 30 can't get here fast enough for me !! TO HELL WITH GEORGIA.

Yeah right MeLuv. Thats why you're crawling from one TECH messageboard to another. Because we don't mean that much to you.

Oh and one other thing. I'd replace the mutts with Auburn in a New York second and be every bit as excited about the game.

Not trying to board a love train for UGAg here or anything but Georgia TECH's athletics and traditions would suffer the loss of an arm without the GT/UGAg rivalry and so would theirs. No, we don't need each other, that whole thought process is childish and immature. You might could possibly consider that the NCAA and college athletics needs us, one of the great traditional rivalries in all the land. Maybe NAVY should quit playing ARMY? If TECH were to quit scheduling UGAg I would officially consider them to have lost their minds. It's as ludicrous a notion as changing the fight song (IARRFGT) or the nickname (Yellow Jackets).

With all due respect, Reckbert, we don't get our feelings hurt, take our ball and go home. We bust them in the mouth and WIN! Thats the way to solve the problem.

Hell F'in no, I want the mutts on the schedule every year. It's bad enough to listen to their recruiting national championships every year (then watch them fall apart) but to listen to the chorus' of 'You're scared to play us'? No thank you, I'll take the puppies on the Saturday after Thanksgiving every year.

I find this mutt arogance amusing because Florida and Auburn could care less about you flea-bags when it comes to their respective FSU, Miami, and Alabama games. They'll hate us alot more come December 1st though..

Honestly? If we are able to continue the trend of winning more than we lose to the mutts, say we play .500 or better over a ten year period, the tension and hatred between the two schools would become go great and nasty, that it would might make sense to put a cooling off period in place for a few years.

Know this: UGAg will NEVER, EVER allow Tech to get the upper hand over them. To them, it is simply not acceptable. They will use every dirty trick known to mankind to keep that from happening. But if Tech were to start getting the upper hand, then the rivalry would get so nasty, that friendships would go into the toilet.

GO JACKETS!!

<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">I have got to say that this is the most stupid post I have ever read... Georgia has always been, and always will be an average team with an average program... The great Vince "averaged" 7 wins a season over 25 years.. you guys are really going to be pissed off when you get your ass spanked next Saturday !

Byte... I think we already have the upper hand... most just dont want to see it... we havent lost in Athens since 1996... and have won 3 out of the last 4, soon to be 4 out of the last 5....

Do I hate them enough to drop them... I guess not, because I think having them on the schedule gives us a quality opponent, and a win that we can count on every year....

If we did drop them though, I could see replacing them with Tennessee, Alabama, or Auburn... any of those would produce a great rivalry for us, still give us a quality opponent... and maybe a little more competition than we have gotten from Georgia as of late.
