Do you think our tight ends will catch any balls against ND?

It seems it would be a nice additional wrinkle to add to our offense considering tight ends have caught like 10 passes over the past few seasons. I am not sure which of the tight ends has the best hands (Peek?). Has anyone heard any news about involving the tight ends more this year? I thought I saw an article a LONG time ago discussing the possibility, but nothing definite.

I bet Bond tries an early pass to a TE to keep ND's defense on its heels the rest of the game.

If our TE's combine to catch more than 5 passes I will be astounded.

I think we'll throw to the tight ends a few times. That'll be an improvement over the past few years.

I sort of wonder about any of their abilities to catch the ball since they were recruited under the 3rd tackle philosophy.

I don't think Peek (or Barrick) was recruited under that philosophy.

It's my understanding that this will be a pass simple offense. Meaning, according to my lay understanding of division one football, we will try and establish the ground game.

Good Luck. You're going to need it.

They were recruited during the Gailey/Nix offensive era. I don't recall many passes to TEs during that time.

I agree that we haven't used TEs in the offense outside of blocking but Peek and Barrick were pass catching TEs in HS. As far as I know, they were expected/projected to do the same when they were being recruited.

**I just misunderstood your original post. I thought you were saying the expectation of Peek (and other TEs on the roster) would be a blocking TE for GT**

John Bond's offenses have tended to utilize the Tight Ends as receivers quite a bit.

2004 NIU: Top 2 TEs combined for 45 catches, 506 yards, 3 TDs
2005 NIU: Top 2 TEs combined for 31 catches, 316 yards, and 2 TDs
2006 NIU: Top 3 TEs combined for 48 catches, 513 yards, and 4 TDs

Compare with our offense last year, where Cooper and Matthews had between them 5 catches for 64 yards.

I really don't think it was the offensive gameplan guys, it was Reggie. No, I'm not "Reggie Bashing", but due to his height, it was asking too much of him to even look at the tight ends, he never even looked their way. Bennett threw to the TE atleast twice in the Gator Bowl, maybe more than twice, but I definitely recall two passes towards the TE. We'll probably see a few passes each game tossed towards our TE's.
