Does anyone else feel that RB is the X factor this season?

I hope the title makes sense, but I can't remember feeling that a season could be made or lost by one player. I just feel the season can go either way, and it is dependant (not completely) on the play of RB. Does anyone else feel this way? Maybe I am just nervous. Anyways, I can't wait for ND.

SEE YA'LL AT BDS...GO JACKETS BUST THEIR ASS!

without a doubt.

100% agreement...there is not a more needed area to make a jump this year than that.

Big jump...BCS
Moderate jump...ACC champ game
No jump...same as last year.

I agree, but it's no different from last year or the year before. We have to have a QB who can move the chains. He doesn't need to be an All American, but he has to be able to read the D, call the right play and hit the open man.

RB is indeed the key. Improved line play will certainly help RB to improve, but he does have to get better.

But the good thing is, he doesnt need get a whole lot better, just a little better. Improve his TD-TO ratio to better than one, improve his completion % to 52-53% and we will win 9 or even 10 or 11!!

Yes, I think the offense's production will pretty much only depend on Reggie. IMO it's almost a certainty that the offense will improve but the question is whether it will improve more than the defense overall has marginally declined.

If he has the same performance as last year, still overthrowing receivers and having the same mistakes, then our offense will still improve because of the OL but only enough to improve the team very little. But if he does start finding open receivers other than the first guy and does not keep throwing so wildly, then the sky's the limit for this team.

For obvious reasons Reggies play will be the key, but I would like to see the 2nd and 2rd WR's step up as well as the TE implemented more.

Reggie is not going to win a game for us by himself but he can lose it by himself if he doesn't contain his emotions. No I didn't say he needs to be a robot but he needs to be in control at all times.

I had a meeting with John Dewberry yesterday and I can say this, John wasn't great but John kept his emotions in tack and made smart decisions in '85 that led to a great year.

We need Reggie to make smart decisions at the right times and not try to force it if it isn't there.

This is actually an area where RB improved last year as evidenced by how many times he threw the ball away instead of taking a sack.

However, this does bring up a question that I have had for a long time - the last ill-fated pass to Bilbo in the Georgia game....was that a poorly thrown ball? Or was a wrong decision and he tried to force it?

I hate to dredge up bad memories, but Ive been wondering....

True...but many times he threw it away with a deep receiver open in the middle or someone underneath open...only looking at the primary receiver.

He didn't look off Bilbo. I think they were reading it anyway, but you have to look him off before you throw to him. Wasn't the best play to call, but wasn't executed properly either.

I think it was the wrong pass to throw, the corner was all over the play, and he threw the pass poorly, right to the defender. He needed air under it for any chance.

Reggie's awareness this year will be key. Gailey will pull him by game two if he doesn't "get it." I don't see that happening. I see RB seeing the whole field, having a grasp of the playbook and beeing on the same page as the coaching staff. This is his year and it's about time the pieces fall together for this young man. Reggie Ball will play Reggie ball this year at the flats.

TO HELL WITH NOTRE DAME!!!

RB's maturity will certainly be a factor this coming season, no doubt.
One thing that I'm eager to see also will be any change in "play calling". Wife & I sat behind two GT alumni at the games and they would tell all sitting around them exactly what play we would run next. They weren't totally correct but they could score in the 90's if grades were given. Neither of these guys played any football, they were simply fans. If they were so close to being right each play, I can only imagine what an opponent's DC would notice from us.
Still, I think this coming season will be a great season and I seriously expect we will beat UGA.
CCG's biggest problem after he arrived was that the team could not reach any consistency at practice. I suspect that will not be a problem anymore too.

What you wrote prior is the problem in a nutshell, and gives rise (imo) to the tick that CG has developed.
The game has moved too fast for our quarterback as a rule.
If RB actually looked at #8 and Minter after the snap, he never would have thrown it.
Where the ball has gone in the past has usually been decided upon before the line is set.

I am sure it will be different this year. :fingersx:
