...how many yards Jonathan Dwyer is going to have next year? Paul Johnson is like a dream coach for a guy like that - big enough to throw off blockers and fast enough to outrun DB's. He's going to get the opportunity to do at Tech what Peterson did at GSU, and it should be a ton of fun to watch. He's going to run from every spot on the field, I bet.

Roddy Jones and Jamal Evans are all smiles as well....but I have a feeling that we'll throw a little more than most think.....

...but it all comes down to the QB. He decides after the snap on nearly every play what he is going to do with the ball based on what he reads.

Peterson ran for all those yards out of the fullback position. It will be interesting to see where all those backs are lined up. I'm not so sure that the blocking fullback that Gailey favored has much of a place in the new offense.

It will be interesting. As you probably noticed though we had already started to move away from the true blocking FB as we were not bringing them in anymore...instead going with larger TB (Richard Watson) that could run the single set...which is what John Bond preferred. We would then use 3 WR's on every play.

I am sure we will see Nesbitt, Dwyer, Jones, and Peeples in the lineup at the same time next year.

We have to recruit more TB's...and right away...we are far too thin for this type of offense right now.

Paul Johnson HAS to be successful here....if he is not it will take the next coach 4-5 years to get TE's, large lineman, drop-back QB's, and blocking FB's back in the program. The transition to the direction we are going now is much easier as you can utilize the athletes in the program...we are just thin.

This is my main concern with the PJ era, if it isn't successful then we will suffer the growing pains of transitioning into a traditional offense (under PJ's successor) with PJ's offensive personnel, aka the Nebraska nightmare. That's why I really, really hope this all works out.:fingersx:

Folks here say that Watson is supposed to have RB skills. If so, he'd fluorish as the FB option.

Can Cox's brother run the ball like Mike. If so, he'd be effective up the gut too.

Exactly...Watson will be just fine.

I was just pointing out that we were already going the direction of a single back offense with less emphasis on recruiting true FB's...instead having some speed backs (Jones, Peeples) to use like a Dunn and bigger backs (Dwyer, Watson) to use like a Duckett.

We just need more running backs on roster right now. Look for us to sign two more RB's in addition to Peeples and Watson...and two more QB's in addition to Shaw.

I don't think that we will be short on RB's. Remember when Tech lined up in that flex bone formation in the 90's with Friedgen. He used receivers in the slot back(halfback) positions. Dez White, Kelly Campbell and Kerry Watkins played there more than anybody. It is a different position than a standard tailback.

Thanks hivered. The FB position in Johnson's offense is more of a big tailback than a lead blocker a la Mike Cox. Watching Navy and Georgia Southern sometimes the biggest plays are when the fullback busts one.

Looking back at Adrian Peterson's stats he carried the ball 20-30 times a game out of the fullback slot. Navy's top two ball carriers are the QB and the FB. Navy's fullback is the third fastest player on their team (4.53 40).

I think this all this rules out Cox or Bray being our FB. Makes me think Dwyer or Kelly.

Or we hire another coach that uses a similar offense. It's not like every coach in the country except PJ is running a Pro Set style offense.

In Div 1A...you will be hard pressed to find anyone that runs the triple option as much as him...but you are correct...there are others. However....none at a school the stature of Georgia Tech.

according to what PJ said (we will see next year), our O would be comparable to:
Florida, Illinois, or West Virginia, no???

He has always said you CAN do a lot of things out of his offense...and the main difference between FL/WV/IL and his offense is that the QB is in the shotgun with their offense. He never actually said he would run one just like theirs.

He just said he would pass more than he did at Navy (14%) and less than he did at Hawaii.
