to get to the BCS title game? If they win out they will have beaten LSU and then Florida in the SEC title game. It looks like their biggest obstacle would be the USC - Notre Dame winner and possibly getting screwed if they decided to rematch Ohio State - Michigan.

I would be interested to see what exactly happened in 1996, but I'm guessing OSU-Michigan game won't happen unless Rutgers and every one-loss team folds in one way or another. The computers may still want a OSU-Mich rematch, but I doubt many human voters will not drop the loser a couple of spots.

The Computers will also absolutely love Arkansas if they run the table with wins against LSU and Florida. The best case scenario for them is for Cal to beat USC and USC to beat ND, making them all two-loss teams. It could happen if USC or ND runs the table, but I think the human voters will automatically put those teams ahead of Arkansas just because of name-recognition.

Arkansas is for real there is no doubt about that. Although I don't feel they are an National Championship contender, however if they do indeed beat the Gators in the SEC Championship I will fully support their bid to Glendale.

Well, with USC sitting at #3 in the new BCS poll, then obviously they will have to lose out first. Then maybe Notre Dame would have to lose as well. Unfortunately for the SEC teams, Florida and Arkansas, either USC or ND will probably run the table from here on out.

I wouldn't be so certain. USC still has to play Cal who despite a lackluster performance against Arizona is very capable of beating them and I think USC takes ND.

Crazy year in college football. IMO we're getting the BCS championship game this Saturday.

ND may win out and still not get there just because the voters have consistently knocked them down this year AND because the undefeated opponent might be Michigan. Arkansas winning out would suggest strength with who they will have beaten. ND got whalloped by Michigan however and I think the voters vote with emotion more than anything.

I think the human element plays too much into it now - pollsters still have that blowout loss to USC in the back of their minds even though Arkansas is a completely different team with Mustain and McFadden (who didn't play against USC).

I'm not so sure about that. Notre Dame trailed Florida by a .0701 BCS average prior to last weekend. A ND victory over a now 4-5 Air Force gained them .0399 (within .0302) on Florida who defeated a now 5-5 South Carolina team. I know there are other factors involved than just these two games but ND saw their deficit to Florida cut in half.

If ND defeats now #3 USC, I can see them overtaking Florida. Now, Florida's saving grace could be the SEC championship game against #7 Arkansas, while ND remains idle until their bowl game. It will be very close if it comes to this.

But UF had a real chance of losing to USCE at home late in the game! That's a big difference versus beating AFA right now.

If ND beats USC in a high scoring game, I see the SECC being the difference maker.
