Don't complain. We have a great football team.

This game was determined by turnovers. Plain and simple. I have a higher respect for our team for fighting through this tough game where nothing was going our way. The score does not reflect what occurred on the field. Our team will go at least 8-4 this season. We have a bye week to regroup and heal and prepare for Miami.

The only complaints I have with our team is our kicker. We need to find a better kicker so that we can stay in games. With a kicker we would be 6-7 at the half and possibly 9-7 at the end of the third (we punted from the 30). We would have been 16-21 or 13-21 (depending on that long FG) after the Dwyer TD and we would have not kicked an onside kick that gave UNC good field position to get 28.

We are a solid football team that just needs a kicker. Plain and simple. Please Please Please CPJ find a kicker and we will have much less headaches next year.

I also hate Butch Davis. He is a great coach but he doesn't understand how to run the clock out. I am seeing a big time rivalry forming between UNC and GT in the next decade. They have a great coach and we also have a great coach.

Congrats to Nicks for scoring on a 4th and 1 play action pass when you already have won the game. What a way to break a pointless record from such a storied program (not ....). You are so awesome.

Let's not smear this great football team that we have playing for us. These guys are real players that just had some unfortunate fumbles/penalties. I am loving being a Jacket. We have some great things coming for our future. J Dwyer is a beast. I love that guy.

Oh yeah and one last thing. That one announcer (I think it was the black dude) was all over UNC's junk the entire game. Raycom has horrible football coverage and they seriously need to get some better announcers and camera men. The camera angles were horrible compared to ESPN/ABC/CBS/FOX.

EDIT:
The Jacket made a good point
The only exception being that our offensive line is in the same boat as our kicker. They're just no performing and they're making poor mistakes.

I question a little if we're a solid football team. We're farther along than I expected at this point, but we do have the luxury of playing in a very young/down ACC this year.

Good point I should add that to my post I will edit to include this.

I wouldn't call the ACC "down" really. Clearly we're not as good as some other conferences, but everyone is playing good football right now for the most part.

I agree but we have a couple of players, on in particularly who flat out aren't getting it done.

It's kind of a chicken or an egg argument. If teams are playing good football, but are lacking in talent and thus are being competitive is the conference still down or not?

I'm not trying to run down the team, but I think with our questions on the OL and in the LB core (I'm surprised people aren't complaining about them more, they've been terrible 3 games in a row now), a banged up young secondary, and very poor ST play it's heard to call us solid.

What I do think is that we've got the emotional aspect of the game down, which is a major change from previous years. If the execution follows, this could be a great football team in coming years.

Well said. That 4th and 1 play was absolute garbage. Kick a FG and I don't have a problem with it. But if you're going to go for it, run it and run out the clock. Don't d-bag it up with a PA-Pass.

And yes the Raycom coverage was awful. Those two penalties during the opening drive were practically ignored 100%. I had to start listening to the stadium announcements in the background or looking for the ref in the corner of the poor camera shots to figure out what the calls were.

We played decently. Our offense got things rolling but couldn't turn it into points. Part of that was because our FG accuracy is horrible, but part was because we just couldn't push past the 30. We need to get a handle on the turnovers and kicking game and we'll be winning these close ones.

No, I basically agree. I guess to me the term "solid" just means we're basically in every game we play. And we have been. Today Carolina pulled away late but for the majority of the game we could have been right there.

We have some much deserved time off coming before Miami. Tons of bumps and bruises that need some down time.

I think young and solid describes us well.

A great team? We have great heart and a great coach but to mean anything more than that is platitudinous drivel. We have so many weaknesses that really great teams don't have. I'll take seven wins any day considering what this team really is.

I agree with you about the LB's, I don't think that we have had decent LB play in the past few games. I know it is not all on the LB's but both of the NC short TD drives after the TO's were accomplished with no passes and we just did not make plays to keep them out of the end zone.

I think you misunderstood him. I don't think he or anyone else believes that we have a "Great football team" in the sense of the word you're interpreting it as. He's just talking about some of the talent we have and the heart and coach you referred to.

This team does a lot of things pretty well considering the team's experience level, but we're just not a top 25 team (as this game and the Virginia game prove). Statistically, this game was close, but HUGE turnovers and lapses in performance made the score look bad. I think we can still turn this into a good year, but now we need to win at least one more game. Otherwise, we're looking at the prospect of finishing the year 0-3 or 0-4 which makes for a long winter. I agree that our kicking game is a problem, and in fairness to Blair, he's being asked to do things that he shouldn't be expected to do at this level. If he was able to focus on punting or kick-offs, he wouldn't be constantly changing leg action and dealing with the pressure of kicking field goals which he not that great at. If we finish 8-4 and play an east coast bowl game, I think that is a season the players and CPJ can take some pride in, and we'll have plenty to look forward to next year. If we finish 7-5 and play a west coast bowl, it will be hard to see how we've broken the mediocre rut of the last several years.

I believe Blair would be better if he only had to focus on one of the three, remember he handles kick offs, punts and field goals. 45-50 yds field goals arent the easiest to make. That said we need another kicker to help out.

I don't know if we're great, in any sense of the word, but we are tough, and unlike last year we don't give up, and I know one thing for damn sure:

We are good enough to beat Georgia.

He wasn't even close on either FG attempt and the distance was not the problem.

You must not be watching the same team everyone else is, if your only worry is at kicker.
