The day before the competition they do basically the same comp between a group of people to determine the 2 finalists. The OT tiebreaker is the results from the previous day.

They have to have an instant tiebreaker due to time constraints. I guess the day-before thing is more fair to the participants but it sucks for the viewers

I'd just have them kick a ball and whoever kicks it further wins. That way you incorporate the foot aspect of football

Edit: I guess the problem with that is it favors males

Edit 2: You could have them try to pin a punt from like the 20. Whoever gets it closest to the goal line wins

Tie breaker should be KY oil wrestling if its girl vs girl. Arm wrestling for guy vs guy.
And obviously if it’s girl vs guy it should be a Teams meeting to see who can login on time.

so many better OT options though. move them back 5 yards; give them each 1 shot sudden death with up to 5 tries. If still tied then tell them they each get $60k. This thing of "yesterday's results" does seem pretty dumb.
