DRad to be on Ramblin Wreck Sports Report

Haha, WREK is really asking for it with that one.

Stick around afterwards (8pm timeslot) to hear my old radio show.

Kyle,

I'm gonna assume you are the same "Kyle" I heard on the show tonight?

Some highlights:

DRAD: GTAA will make money for FY2007, unlike previous years.
DRAD: Biggest difference between LSU and GT is Atlanta has more choices than Baton Rouge and academic challenges athletes face.
DRAD: Internet rumors concerning Gailey were BS.
DRAD: Brad Shelton rocks.
DRAD: Said 8 o'clock start was partially to blame for water bottle throwing at BC.
DRAD: Educate our student athletes and entertain our clients are his goals.
DRAD: GT football used to be THE thing in Atlanta in even the 50's and 60's. The sustained success of football/baskteball will let us get back to that level.

My impression -- Dan is the man. I continue to be impressed with the way he articulates his vision, and look forward to realizing it...Mike

Seconded. dRad has more faith in Georgia Tech than anyone I've ever seen in the GTAA. Including Dr. Rice. I think he is keenly aware of exactly what is and has been holding us back and has no reservations about surgically removing it. I'm not referring to anyone/thing in particular - I just mean that anything that gets between Dan and his goal for Tech won't be in the way for very long.

But I will explicitly include some jerkoff alums who think they run this place. The Tech fund wasn't just about making money. It was also about making us less dependent on certain revenue sources.

I like Dan personally, and appreciate everything he has done to date, but don't misinterpret his actions as grounded in some sort of loyalty (or faith) in the Institute. He's come in and done exactly what he was hired to do in a very effective manner and with a passion for a job he loves. I hope he stays for a very long time...as long as those traits continue.

Then again, he hasn't hired a coach for us yet. I have faith that he can make the right choice, but if he turns out to be a glorified bean counter with no sports sense all bets are off.

What was dRad's role (if any) in the Nix/Bond thing? Given that Gailey didn't let Nix go, I have to think dRad was involved at some level. And while Rad may not have had a direct role in hiring Bond, I have (hopefully not incorrectly) credited him for "setting the table." IOW, I think but for dRad, Nix is still here. Is that accurate?

I would like for him to have said what his definition of on field success to be, and his goals for the football program.

That's not really what I meant. I was referring to hiring the guy/gal that will lead one of our programs.

Still, you give Bond a pass, while crapping on Nix, and I don't see the offense as an improvement over last year. Nix' team actually had fewer losses than Bond's does at this point in the season. And you blame Gailey (possibly deservedly) this year, but isn't it likely that Chan's influence is less than last year? Bond may be some sort of offensive genius and Nix not so much, but that hasn't been proven yet. I wouldn't give the AD too much of that credit yet.

Through 8 games excluding Samford
2006 - 24.4 PPG
2007 - 22.3 PPG

Not too different, but we had Calvin and a healthy TC last year. Our production went down considerably in the last 4 games as well.

Huh? I was merely asking or discussing the statement you made that dRad hasn't hired a coach yet by wondering what role he may have had in Nix' departure and Bond's hiring.

I wasn't making a judgement on either.

But, since were at it, you correctly infer that I am no fan of Pat Nix. As far as giving Bond a pass - I'm not anywhere near as excited about him at Game 8 as I was just before we kicked off at ND.

I didn't really mean You you. It was more like all y'all you. People here have crapped on both Gailey and Nix for their offensive coaching abilities, but then we get these comments about Painter being only behind Ralph as GT's best OC by citing average ppg. And Bond was supposed to be some sort of offensive guru, who is being held back by a meddling HC.

The fact is that most of our (and other teams') ppg are going to be relatively close over the years with exceptions for stellar (or ****ty) occassional runs.

Did you exclude Samford both years or just this year?

Edit: it looks like both.
