There are currently 7 ACC teams plus ND that are bowl eligible. GT and BC both need one more win. Tech is in better shape than that suggests, because a win over Duke would give us a 5-3 conference record. Since conference record is the first factor for bowl selection, we would likely end up in the 1st tier "group of four" bowls (Music City, Belk, Sun, Pinstripe). The teams certain or likely to have better conference records than us are:

UM (currently 6-0)
Clemson (7-1)
NC St (currently 5-1) with WF and UNC left on their schedule
ND can get selected without a conference record

Besides GT, three teams could finish at 5-3:

VT (currently 3-3) with Pitt and UVa left on their schedule
UVa (currently 3-3) with UM and VT left on their schedule
WF (currently 3-3) with NC St and Duke left on their schedule

The possible bowls for the teams ahead of us are Playoff, Orange, Camping World, and potentially Citrus. Two of the three other teams with a chance to finish 5-3 (VT and UVa) have to play each other, so there can realistically only be 3 teams that finish with that conference record. UVa and WF have to face UM and NC St, respectively, so probably won't get there. This might be a great opportunity for Tech to end up in the Belk Bowl.

I love Charlotte's stadium if we get selected there. Hell of a lot better than the flexing butthole Falcon's stadium - which lately has leakage -ewwwwwww.

Hopefully ND gets picked for a NY6 and falls out of the pecking order this year

If Pitt can beat VT, we may be the only 5 and 3 team. The ideal scenario is Clemson defeating a previously undefeated Miami sending both into the playoff.

With 2 losses, I really don't see ND getting picked. Clemson or Miami would be a better choice for the Orange Bowl.

ND can be picked as opponent for ACC in OB as well, so that's not out for them technically.

I was mainly referring to one of the six at-large bids though.

2 more games more important than any bowl game left, as all here know.

That being said, if we do get to a bowl, I am afraid we have reached the point where our lack of fan support in bowl games, is going to start coming back and haunt us as regards location of a bowl offered.

How about we focus on beating Duke. No win is guaranteed.
That is Paul Johnson’s problem. We have no control over their prep. Our job is to speculate and set ourselves for disappoint

AP out. Receiving votes! :ughdance: Seems like the win gave us a huge bump. Iowa State is another four-loss squad with more votes than us but they have really solid wins over TCU and OK (not to mention an extra W) so can't complain.

The team absolutely should, but we're just message board posters.
Just message board posters? JUST MESSAGE BOARD POSTERS?!?!?

I suppose your mother is just a mother.

Speaking of your mom, she said JJacket has her a bit tied up today. You are gonna have to go through a damn drive through for your Sunday dinner.

The way the conference bowl tie-ins are designed now, the individual bowls don't have as much influence on the selection process. Nevertheless, our fan bowl support is on par with most of the teams in the conference. ACC fans show up to the bowls they can drive to. Only a few teams get a decent turnout when the bowl requires a flight. The distant bowls, like Pinstripe, Sun, Quicklane, and Independence rarely get much fan attendance, regardless of what team is playing.

Belk isn't a bad bowl, but I wish they had a better name. Even "Belk Fun Bowl" would be better. They think it would diminish the advertising benefit to call it something other than the "Belk Bowl", but I think they are wrong.

"Camping World" is a top bowl now? :chad:

I must be missing something because I have absolutely zero interest in playing UCF either in the regular season or in a bowl.
