It doesn't seem possible that it was 30 years ago this month! :wow:

thanks for posting! great story, especially this part:

"I was a people pleaser when I was in high school," he explained. "I wanted to make everyone else happy. I always wanted to put a smile on their faces. Everyone wanted me to go to the University of Georgia, so I said I'd do it. That's wasn't in my heart though.
"The day before signing day, (Georgia Tech assistant coach) Dick Bestwick came down and got me out of math class. He looked me straight in the eye and asked, 'Eddie Lee, do you really want to go to the University of Georgia?' I had tears in my eyes, and I told him, 'No sir, I want to go to Georgia Tech, because that's where my heart is.' Everything else is history."

He will ALWAYS be one of my favorites...if not my all-time favorite Yellow Jacket. I have fond and vivid memories of hearing the late great Al Ciraldo screaming "Eddie Lee" after a big run. It BROKE MY HEART when he went down with an injury in the ugag game ('78 I think) when he was running all over them...like Wake Forest, or Maryland, or somebody. He left and we lost a heart breaker.

Eddie Lee is one of the great student-athletes Georgia Tech will ever know!

Man, what a great story! I remember him in class and walking around campus. He just looked like he loved it. Always smiling. Darn good Jacket!

Yes, that was the game in Athens in 1978. Tech was up 20-0 shortly before the half, and the guys in red were already starting to leave the stands. Tech ended up losing 29-28, after Buck Belue threw a two-point conversion. Tough loss, hell of a game though.

UGA fans cheered when Eddie Lee got hurt. I was there, it was a tough day.

Wasen't he hurt when ugag speared him? If I recall correctly they were not flagged on that play either. Cheatin Bastards!

They were not flagged on the play. I know some have said it was a cheap shot, but I don't recall it as such.

Still it was them dawgs, so one may safely assume it was a cheap shot.

No, on the play he was carrying about 3 of them trying to get extra yardage and their legs all got tangled up and he sprained his ankle. If he had just gone down at first contact he probably would have been OK. I remember it like it was yesterday.

You may have forgotten that on the 2 pt conversion they failed but we were called for offsides even though it was not apparent from the replay.

Great RB......i remember this game....al and kim could hardly talk because they were to cold....lol..we also had one of the best WR in georgia tech history on that team......DREW HILL....
