Eddie McAshan

Nice video, made me wonder what.s going on with Eddie Lee Ivery. Is he still working for us in the strength and training program?

I remember Eddie. Super talented kid but couldn't achieve over a mediocre Tech team. Not to mention the pressure of being the first black athlete at Tech. My ex-bro-in-law grew up in north Florida over around Gainesville and saw Eddie play HS ball. Said he was a phenom, almost legendary, in all sports.

Really inconsistent. Threw something like 6 TDs against Rice but threw 6 interceptions also. Got some really bad advise at the twilight of his career. Put himself above the program.

Was a walkon at that time and got to see Eddie up close. He was a truly marvelous
athlete, probably could have played D1 basketball. And yeah, he got some really bad advice at the end there (Jesse Jackson came sniffing around for some reason IIRC)

He was a douche-bag.

Nine years ago Eddie Mc showed up on one of my construction sites as a day laborer. I spoke to Eddie a couple of times. He had just gotten laid off from working at Life College for Dr. Sid. Eddie had his degree and I suggested he apply for a position at our company. I went to the man who ran our company (the Exec VP) at the time, told him who was working on remodeling his office building. As it urns out the EVP was from Gainesville FL, was about Eddie's age, knew all about Eddie, and went to bat for Eddie. Unfortunately, it didn't pan out for Eddie.

I was at his first game against South Carolina in the season opener. My fiancé and I sat in the North Stands. One week later, we got married, so I have very fond memories of those days.

On the day we got married, Tech beat FSU in the afternoon, and our wedding was that night. It is amazing how time has flown by. I wish that I could go back and live it all over again.

By the way, we ended that regular season by beating Georgia in Athens. Our defense was so sound that the Dogs never had a chance. I was lucky to be able to go to all those games, plus a lot of others that year.
