Looking on the SC and Ms st boards this guy is very highly thought of, may be a great hire at the flats:fingersx:
 
Of all the realistic names mentioned, Ellis would be my first choice. I think that he would be a good fit.

Yes he interviewed. Dave Wommack and Giff Smith have also interviewed. I have heard that a decision on the new staff could be made in the next few days.

I really like Johnson, but not at the expense of Giff. I think that we would hold onto Giff for another year or two regardless. However, it won't be long before somebody is calling for his services as a DC or a IAA HC.
 
other sources say that 4 candidates were interviewed, given your list of 3, can we assume that CJT was the 4th? it has not even been confirmed that he was interviewed for the position. i am fairly resigned to seeing him go, but i hope that CPJ has a major face to face with him before he makes a choice. the continuity would be good. if kelly, jean-marie and smith stay anyway, that is pretty dang good though! i really like those guys, especially BJM
 
Take this for what it's worth but a USCeast fan came up to me yesterday afternoon to tell me they hired VanGorder. According to this guy, who pays for one of the USC boards, they didn't take Johnson because he wanted to bring his entire defensive staff with him, I havent researched but this is what was told to me.
 
I am not all that impressed with Ellis Johnson. His kids play hard but the numbers are only okay.

According to the recruiting sites he had a surprising amount of defensive talent at MSU, certainly a lot more than we have had by the same rankings. Yet his D's were about 5 PPG and 40 YPG worse than ours.

Bama's D was elite under Stallings before he got there, and it was awesome again two years after he left. It was merely decent in three of his four seasons (very good in 1999), which means not very good by Bama standards.

At Clemson from 94-96 he maintained the defensive status quo.
 
I like Ellis because he is a Johnson, eg. Calvin, Paul, and now maybe Ellis. I know ArchiTech will like these "Johnson's".
