After 22 years of seat enjoyment enduring the likes of Bill Curry and Billy Lewis how nice it was to see the ideas of Brain Dead (Dave Brane) fail. The empty seats on the East side lower level were a nice touch Dave. There were many empty boxes, nice to see that not all of the faithful Tech Alums have fallen to you 5th Ave. marketing ploy. The Auburn ticket was the hardest to get in years and you Brain Dead were able to reorginize the seats in the stadium for your best interest and have empty seats at the best opeing game at Ga. Tech since Alabama in 1979.

I wish everyone that has had their feelings hurt by Dave Braine and/or Chan Gailey would put their feelings behind them and show the team full support. The only complaint I have about Saturday was the empty seats in the Tech sections and the very late arrival of the Tech crowd. I got to the game two hours early to soak up some atmosphere and sadly it was dominated by orange and the cry of war eagle. I have to say all Auburn fans were very gracious (and confident) before the game and gracious (humbled) after the game. We need to show up early, show the colors, and make noise!

That is the atmosphere that energizes the players, impresses recruits, and can help intimidate the opposing team. I have been to away games at several venues and we are not a great home crowd compared to others teams. However, the energy the crowd showed in the fourth quarter was about the best I can remember in the 40 years of attending games at the flats. Lets build on this and make our stadium a great place to play!

All those who arrived late did so because they weren't even in their RESERVED PARKING SPACES until kickoff time. So much for "enhanced tailgating for GT fans....".

The only full lots were the general admission lots. Surprised? I'm not.

Looks like we may have a team of winners and fans to back them regardless of how many screw-ups come from lala land (GTAA).

Go Jackets!

I doubt there were even 2,000 that took the train to the game.

Just curious, how do fans tailgating intimidate an opponent? They just get off the bus and go into the stadium.

I started taking the train from Perimeter a few years back. It's nice not to have to fight to park. Get off right at North Avenue, cross and eat at the Varsity, see the sights. Generally take my time leaving to let the crowded trains leave. There are always a lot more than 2,000 on the trains. Parking is generally a rip in Atlanta. Parking was $20 for the Falcons game I went to last year (I had a pass).
Also beats parking god knows how many miles away from the stadium like I have had to do for the Tech-UGAg games in Athens.

Good posts by all here.

This is all my personal opinion, but the idea of riding a subway (sic) train to watch a college football game is absurd. That is what Pro Hockey is for.

Being a GT fan isn't easy. It takes work and dedication. I personally feel that there is much pleasure to be found in the entire gameday experience. Especially when you tailgate with friends. It helps to promote an atmosphere that will keep people coming back even when the team isn't peforming to well.

I have recruited quite a few Jacket fans because they came to our tailgate and saw the throngs of people socializing, throwing the pigskin, drinking, and eating good food. You feel like you are a part of something. I believe the atmosphere is what really attracts the non-alumni, and the the alumni who really aren't that interested in the first place.

How does a Marta train make you feel like you are part of something? I agree parking 2 miles away really sucks. You can blame GTAA and Braine directly for that one.

<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">I am there to watch my favorite team play football. No offense, and I'm not implying that you are trying to offend me because you're not, but I'd rather be up here on the farm doing all of that other stuff with friends. I feel just as much a part of the Jackets as anyone. I just enjoy the Varsity experience, seeing the sights, watching the band march in and watching a good football game. Sure, if parking was made easier at Tech it would be wonderful and I probably would drive and tailgate, but it's hard to park at any event at Tech it seems, whether it's Football, Baseball, or Basketball (I like to attend all three when I can). It would be nice if something could be done about that.

Beeserk, I agree with you........I come from SOWEGA, and have often wondered if it would be better to catch Marta at Air Port cruise on in. Honestly, if I were not a chicken at heart, I would probably do so. Instead, we (daughter and I) normally have gone on into town, parked on bridge (yrs. past; before that in some p. deck) and walked on in. Sorry to admit it, but I did not go to Auburn game. My dau. and son parked ( I think on Spring or 5th) and I guess that will be the routine henceforth.
I personally would love for my daughter to get in with some of you tail-gaters (she is a pretty, blonde and just cannot get over her 1st love: (Georgia TEch), long enough to look at most men; but she did nearly get engaged to an ex FSU Defensive Back dufus a few years ago. Praise the Lord!!!! They broke up after about 2 years!!!
Glad she escaped. (She would kill me if she knew I was exposing her life like this)
Hey, I need to stop or she will not take me to a game this year. And I am on S.S. and can no longer afford to buy as many tickets as I once did. I have a Georgia TEch (Macon/Mercer grad) fanatic on my hands. She calls me from games I do not attend, and reprimands me anytime I say anything negative about any player and who ever is the coach. She makes sure I tape all games not attended by me and if I erase them, then my name is mud: No Christmas present!!!!!! What kind of Tech Monster have I raised (42 yrs.old)

Now, all of a sudden, I am asking myself, "Shoot why am I in this post???" Oh, one thing, it started out talking about empty seats: I can tell you of one that will never be empty and shall remain filled until the team goes off the field every game. And if her Pop tries to leave early, he gets a pom-pom rap to the head. Also one that shall not be filled without a trip to the bookstore (hallelujah, no more climbing that dadgone hill!!!!!)the Y.J. thing, the band thing, the varsity, and having to stay till the team leaves the field even if 70 to 0 . Don't any of you GT jerks want an attractive, 41 yr. old woman who is a social worker by trade, and a Tech FAn by life???? (Don't blame her, I brought her up that way) Okay, you will get my ticket, but I can manage at age: 65.
Calling all who are: Christian, around 40, G.T. grads or fanatic supporters, despisers of Georgia, yet courageous enough to buy scalper tickets even in Athens and root for the Jackets!!!!! If she finds me out she will skin me; if she links with you, then you are in for fan day, media day, spring practice, spring game, all games (home and away), prayers toward BD/GF three times a day, and a tough lady who loves God, Family, TEch, a few friends, and little else..........

I cannot believe a crummy lunch=bunch report post with pitiful info could knock mine from the toplllllll......shame.

My son and I rode Marta from the airport to downtown. We arrived 15 minutes until kickoff.

There were few of us Tech fans on Marta, but when we stopped at Five Points to pick up those coming in from the Western Marta line, it immediately filled up with Auburn fans.

On the way back from the game, the same thing happened. The trains were packed with Auburn fans.

Father Time

JJ, I completely understand where you are coming from and certainly take no offense at your comments.

You hit my point exactly. You admitted that you would probably come and tailgate if it was easier to do such a thing.

I suspect there are many more like you.

Actually if you get there real early, it is very easy to park. I understand that many fans are not willing to give up their entire saturday though for the sole purpose of tailgating under present conditions.

There is a good contingent of GT fans
at the Boy's Club parking lot on Spring
Street. Plus it is just a short walk
to the tunnel to BDS@HGF.

Come try the Boy's Club for Clemson,
I think you will enjoy the atmosphere
plus drinking a few with some great
GT fans!
