ESPN top 25...

They won't lose to Navy this year.

Wins:
BC, Navy, San Diego State, 'Cuse, Mich State, Stanford,

Tossup:
Washington, UNC, Purdue

Loss:
Michigan, USC

I give them about 9 wins and New Year's Day Bowl. I don't think they can be that bad 2 years in a row with all that talent and the weak schedule.

Mich St has earned the right to be moved into the tossup column with ND. If ND were somehow ranked when they play Mich St, then Mich St would be a lock to win. I think BC is in the tossup column and UNC is in the win column.

Based on that schedule, and the logic that they could win 9 games, shouldn't we be ranked as well? This is nothing but the standard Notre Dame bull****. But hey, at least we get to watch another train wreck.

I don't think they'll be a train wreck...they've gotten a ton of talent the past couple years. I don't see a BCS bowl for them this season though.

People saw last year as an aberration - this year, Notre Dame becomes cemented as being in deep dome and Weis is in danger of being the fat Willingham.

Those guys are on roids. Of course they'll be. They're the "golden domers!"

On the other hand, I like our chances quite well if we can find someone that can hang on to the ball. For a whole game. Not just a series or a half.

Don't forget, they now have the almighty Tenuta on their side. In the words of beej, he'll be calling "ROCK" all day long until they win...

We'll see. His defense worked quite well when we had the talent to run it...the loss of Kenny Scott really killed us, and his system did not work last year with the talent we had. I'm not up-to-date on ND's depth chart, but it wouldn't surprise me if they are much more talented on defense, personnel-wise, than we were last year. Last year soured a lot of people on his scheme, but it didn't invalidate all the tremendous seasons he had before.

EDIT: Meant to say I wouldn't be surprised if they are more talented on D than we were last year.

Thats right, Tenutas blitz heavy scheme lived and died by having quality and hard hitting dbacks. When we didn't have as good of guys (though still pretty decent) they got hammered.

Not really sure where you guys are coming from to tell you the truth. Tenuta will live and die with the blitz...there's no doubt about that. But our D last year was very comparable to 2006 and in fact I would suggest the biggest difference was simply that ACC offenses were much better. Exhibit 1 is that Tech was the 3rd ranked offense in the league in 2007 at 389 ypg. We were 3rd in 2006 also, but at 332 ypg. (from cfbstats.com) Simply put, the ACC in 2006 really, really sucked offensively across the board. We didn't get hammered anymore last season that we've always been hammered under Tenuta. When a team had an offense that could deal with the blitz, either by protecting and short passes or by running it down our throats, we had no chance.

I'm not sure ND has enough speed to use Tenuta's schemes...but we'll see.
