ESPN's Pat Forde has us in the hunt...

So that puts us behind all the one loss teams and all the no loss teams?

Can we hang a banner for this achievement before we actually play another good team?.

I like Forde too, and look foward to reading the Dash each week. It's a nice run-through of the CFB world, in the same vein as Easterbrook's TMQ or Peter King's MMQ - except Forde is still readable, unlike those other two.

Geez. I just thought it was cool that we are getting mentioned and receiving publicity for what our team is doing, which is half the battle in the BCS world. Somehow this thread isn't worth it but threads talking about AJC's "Know Your Dawgs" are?

He relies on preseason rankings too much when doing analysis at the beginning of the year. Last year he slammed ND because "unranked Georgia Tech" beat them 33-3. We ended up being ranked after that week. I've seen him do that several other times too.

I'm with you gth. I thought it was cool when I read it.

We got mentioned. Let's look at some 1-loss that can't say that.

ACC - Wake, FSU, BC, UNC
Big 12 - Kansas
Big East - Pitt, UConn, Cincy, USF
Big 10(1) - Minn, NW
SEC - Vandy, LSU
PAC 10 - none

Undefeateds:
Big 12 - OK St, Texas, Texas Tech
Big 10(1) - Penn St
CUSA - Tulsa
MAC - Ball State
MWC - Utah, BYU
SEC - Bama
WAC - Boise St

I'm not sure he (Forde or gth) intended for this ot be any kind of ranking. But even so, to answer an earlier question...

No, there are 13 1-loss teams he didn't list in his article.

Any positive press is good press. They're talking.

Not criticizing you. Don't take it personally. Good to get some pub, indeed.

I contend that with respect to rankings and even potential bowl selections, the Gardner-Webb game will haunt us like an additional loss.

No, our bowl selection will depend on two things.

1) Did we win the ACC, if yes BCS non-title game, if no east coast game
2) Did we beat georgie (assuming no ACCCG), if no we go to a lower tier ACC bowl because we don't travel well after losing to georgie. If yes, we go to an upper tier ACC bowl because we DO travel well after we beat georgie

GW won't sway anyone one way or the other.

Agree. For all intents and purposes, GW didn't happen. Even if we had lost - it would have been a major embarrassment but it wouldn't have counted against bowl eligibility or conference ranking (aside from far-fetched tie-breaker scenarios).

UNC struggled to beat McNeese State 35-27 early and they haven't had any problem breaking into the rankings and garnering respect. The GW game will be forgotten if we keep winning.

how did this guy leave Penn St out? I guess he assumes they will lose to Ohio St. which I doubt.
