I think we are really down to 2 . . .

. . . it does not look like Winter the receiver will be visiting us this weekend. That means Uzzi and Joe Jones are really the only 2 we are publicly pursuing.

At this point I am not super confident we will land either one of those, not because of the effort of the coaching staff, but just the way things seem to be breaking for us here at the end.

Most insiders say there are no surprise commitments that will be forthcoming at the last minute, so it looks like Uzzi and Jones are our last real possibilities.

I think if we can land those 2 you have to feel we did pretty good under the transistion. If we do not then I think you have to say we came up short.

Go Jackets!

It sure looks that way and what makes it even worse is UGAG is already working on the 2009 class, it truly blows my mind that we cant find 25 at least 3 star players that want to come to GT, go figure.

I have a feeling this will change starting next year and be in full swing the year after.

But, it will be just as you said, 25 3* guys, probably some 2*. Probably not many, if any 4 or 5*s...but most of us already knew that(including you, I would imagine)

Sheesh.

When has GT EVER gotten 25 3-star players to come to GT? With the possible exception of Gailey's last class, where we signed some 2-stars but turned away 3-stars?

EVER?

2000 had 2-stars. 1975 didn't have star ratings, but I bet we had some 2-star ratings even in that class.

Is this the mindset that caused us to fire our last coach? That's bad news for Paul.

There's no reason we shouldn't be landing some four stars on defense in the future. We should also be able to attract some for the b-back position and maybe some higher touted dual threat qbs.

Does anyone with "insider" info have any updates on Uzzi? People seemed optimistic about him last week. Have we any reason to believe we have a shot at him?

You are correct, if you look at the scout recruiting rankings we are currently at number 39, every team above us has at least 1 4 star player. After all, we are Georgia Tech not chopped liver you would think we could get at least 2 a year.

Some people are forgetting we're in a coaching change this year. I'm ecstatic with the recruits CPJ has been able to land thus far. Given the typical mass-exodus with coaching changes, this year's class looks pretty good. But I'm just "accepting mediocrity."

I think you missed where I said "in the future." I'm not gonna judge a coach's recruiting without giving him a full year.

Oh, i am not blaming our current head coach, i think we have one of the top 10 coaches in NCAA football. Its not just this year, we have trouble every year.

Ask yourself why a Parade All American only has "three stars," and you'll answer the question to why Tech gets less "stars" than other teams.

I don't have any "inside" information. But it just makes me nervous when the hometown prospect who has been to campus several times, who is familiar with the players and coaches, puts off his decision ths long. It seems that if he really wanted to come to Tech he would have already pulled the trigger. But I'm a glass half-full type so just ignore my misgivings and pessimism.

Yes, I agree, but some kids just want to wait til the end so that 50 year old men will talk about them longer. Once they sign, it's all over.

Other kids promise themselves or their parents that they'll investigate multiple options even though they know where they want to go. Sometimes by putting it off til the end, they unfortunately go elsewhere even if in the end, it wasn't where they wanted to go.

Who knows. They're all a bunch of 17 year old kids. I have one too and can't wait til she makes her decision and we move on.

Amen!

Mine are a little older now but we all need help with decision making. Hell, if you ask my wife not all of my decisions are perfect either. :D

BTW: mover, the bride and I spent the weekend in a cabin near your old stomping grounds at Ellijay. Had a lovely time and certanly enjoyed the area. And things are really booming out on Hwy 5 east of the city. But we still stopped in to Col. Poole's for some BBQ on the way home Sunday.

Lawdy, there's better places to eat than Col. Poole's, just tell me you stopped to listen to him play the piano not eat the bbq.

I was up at my agents campground for the weekend as well, across from panarama's apple house.

Comment on recruiting-
yrs ago an athlete in town was being persued by several schools,I happened to speak to his Dad a week before signing day and he told me it was down to Tech and awbern for his kid, on the big day he went to -Vandy. so go figure:wow:

I remember what recruiting was like 25 years ago and I hate to see what some of these kids are going through. If it wasn't for my dad I would have wound up being a nad licker, what a great dad he is.
