It's frustrating to watch, but my observations are:

-I don't see why we can't fix it. Most of these mistakes are missed blocks or not knowing who to block. That should be fixable. But...
-The frustrating thing is, the guys whiffing blocks or not knowing who to block have been in the system for a while. At least a couple of years now. That's concerning.
-We had a lot of chances for big plays and either didn't hit the hole, didn't make the read, or missed one block.

See for yourself^

I'm sure the consistent theme of being unable to block is just generation after generation of player and it has nothing to do with whoever is coaching them.

It definitely seems like we cannot block in the second level anymore. Not sure what happened, but 13's angles were good and our guy couldn't seem to get in his way.

Lots of whiff blocks too.

If we can correct a few of these issues, we'll be good.

  • We were playing one of the most highly rated defenses.
  • We have historically missed blocks in games 1 and 2. We should wait and see how we block in game 3 before we start saying the sky is falling.

We were able to match up physically with the BC defense pretty well, but it looks like way too many defenders were left completely unblocked. Not knowing the assignments for a particular play makes it hard to judge, but I assume we don't leave 3 DL unblocked on purpose when running the option.

They lined up and dared us to throw. Made sure they had numbers on every run play. Same tactic VT uses.

I like how there is a descriptive name for most plays. Like, "QB Counter", "Veer Left", "Lead Option". Then you have "Pass". :rotfl:

EDIT: That's probably how they're labeled in our playbook too.

ugh... watch 71 at 0:38 play.

strangest thing to me, though, is how clean #13 stayed the whole game. It was like we had a very hard time accounting for him.

I suspect the visiting team's players and Coaches in this video would be willing to consider offering their consulting services...5:29 is a good example of their capabilities

That was an impressive play/run, not gonna lie. Heckuva cut block on the edge (#15?) to open up that run. All around athletic play, certainly not upset about them being USCe

Thank you for clarifying that it is not the scheme, but the coaches
