Expectations for next season?

ALL of our games look winnable and certainly a 12-0 regular season looks possible, but I know that is highly unlikely. Nobody is going to look past us next year and we will have a big target on our back. We'll probably be the ACC preseason pick and be highly ranked to start the season. I am worried about our defense, particularly our corners and DL.

I am going to predict one more win. I think we end the season 10-2 with an Orange bowl berth.

Our toughest games next season in order:
1. @FSU
2. UNC
3. @Miami
4. UGAg
5. VPI
6. @UVA
7. Wake Forest
8. Clemson
9. MSU
10. @Duke
11. @Vandy
12. Jacksonville State

We cap an undefeated season by beating Georgie at home, rush the field, tear down the goal posts, win the ACCCG and play for a national championship.

I see that we'll be a lot better but so will our opponents. It's rash to say the least to predict 12-0. Florida looks like an NFL team at the college level now and they lost to Ole Miss at home.

I will only predict our matchup with FSU, if it's later in the year, will have national attention. I mean, two top-10 teams playing type of national attention.

Put @UVA as #1. I am sick and #@$^!$#@ tired of losing to Virginia in Charlottesville. Haven't won there since 1990.

O'Leary couldn't win there.
Joe Hamilton couldn't win there.
George Godsey couldn't win there.
Shan Kailey couldn't win there. (lol ... shocker ...)

thats a little out there...FSU may beat us our defense is going to be very young, but it depends on when in the season that game is...
if we face easier teams early, then maybe undefeated is possible as our young defense matures
are the dates for the games out?

Everyone will be gunning for us because a bowl game win will likely result in us being ranked between 10 and 15 next year pre-season.

The toughest four games (in no particular order)

1) UNC gets most everyone back
2) At FSU will always be tough.
3) At Miami will always be tough.
4) UGA anywhere is always tough.

I expect to beat JaxSt, VT, Wake, Virginia (even at UVA next year), and Clemson at our home next year.
I expect to beat Duke, Vandy, and Miss. St. anywhere in the world we play them.

I think we go 10-2...just not sure how we will do it.

Smith, Carr, Nicholson and Gano are gone. FSU won't be better until Bowden retires. Did you see how pathetic they looked against Florida?

If Stafford is back, then UGA is still the hardest team on our schedule.

Next year will certainly be tougher than this year. Everyone has seen us and will be a little better at playing us, even though that didnt work for UGAg.

I don't see a problem at Miami.
FSU will be tough but since I am going, we will win.

Damn I wanna rush the field after going 12-0 and beating UGA again.

I sure hope that we win the ACC next, in fact that is my expectation. 10-2 would be good. I hope we beat the hell out of VT and UVA. Good god I can't believe we lost to those idiots. Oh well, next year I expect will be title year for GT.

What do you all think our preseason ranking will be?

Win Peach\gator bowl - 9th
Lose Peach\gator bowl - 17th
Win Music City - 12th
Lose Music City - 18th

Too early to make my 'true' prediction, but I expect 10 wins next year, and a run at the NC in 2010, barring any huge unforeseen injuries.

I think that's going to all depend on in what manner we win or lose. Win big will allow us to possibly crack the top 10. Win a close one somewhere in the 10-15 range. Lose a close one probably closer to 15-20. All in all, I definitely see us ranked pre-season which may or may not be good since we'll have the target on us next season. I just hope we don't come out like Clemson did this year.

We have a good coach, disciplined players, and an easy first game to knock the rust off. We will not be Clemson.

Put me in the boat that thinks next year will be harder then this year. Our defense carried us through some tough times in the beginning of the season, and we're losing the strength of it. I hope our offensive line gets a lot better, because I think we'll need to start winning some shoot outs. Which we are obviously capable of.

I can see us going 10-2 though, based on the schedule alone. I don't see FSU getting any better on offense, I think Patrick Nix will still be in Miami, UGA is getting the neutering that any ugly mutt needs, VPISU doesn't look like they've made any progress. UNC will probably be our toughest opponent.

You still think a run at natl champ in 2010 if Dwyer, Morgan, and Burnett all go pro early...and possibly DThomas?

12-0 huh?
Take this year--the following really really really good teams couldn't do it: Texas, Oklahoma, Florida, USC, Penn State. It is very hard to do. That is why in 1990, even though it was very arguable that we were not even the fourth or fifth best football team in the land--we didn't lose a game and therefore were deserving of the championship.

USC will be our toughest opponent in the MNC game.....just kidding. 9-11 wins depending on injuries and other teams injuries.

I agree with Beej that we could be special in 2010.

Did you read my post?

Here is what we lose for next year (taken from the two-deep chart).

Offense:
Starters:
NONE

Two-Deep:
WR - Andrew Smith (listed as OR Zach Fisher, Fr.)
C - Andrew Folkner
RG - A.J. Smith
RT - David Brown (Technically shared starting duties with Austin Barrickm, So.)

Defense:
Starters:
DT - Vance Walker AND Darryl Richard
DE - Michael Johnson

Two-Deep:
DT - Elris Anyaibe
OLB - Tony Clark
CB - Jahi Word-Daniels

Others:
Longsnapper - Bret White
Andrew Gardner - Injuried through Sr. year.

We will definitely feel the pain at DT - losing two starters and one backup. We have some good DE's but it will suck to lose MJ. All that being said, we look to be in pretty good shape next year - especially if some of the redshirts from this year can come in and make a big impact - not to mention the incoming freshman who won't redshirt next year.

We haven't had a defensive player go pro early since I can remember, and the last two offensive players to go pro early were Calvin Johnson and Dez White, as best as I recall.

None of them will go pro early, because of the system we run.
