If the scenario were different:

What are the realistic expectations of consistency from this group relating to on field performance

Do you expect to be top 10 on a yearly basis? Is Tech capable of sustaining that type of program with academics

Is it 7-9 with a sneak up 10 or 11 win season?

Given those two..... Who is a fit for us? Obviously this isn't it.

I'm curious

That is some defeatist bullsh*t right there. Nothing short of a Natty is ever going to be good enough. We let the guy that would give us 7-9 wins with the occasional 10 walk out the door b/c the fanbase wanted to throw the ball more. That beautiful SOB wasn't good enough then and isn't anymore. The marketing clown we hired to replace him was supposed to jumpstart the program - gets the recruits in, gets the fanbase excited, JUICE JUICE everywhere JUICE! Maybe if we're really lucky, it snowballs us back in to the conversation. Only thing is that he couldn't actually coach or surround himself with those that could either. So we'll keep waiting. Maybe we'll hit the lottery on some brilliant coordinators. Looking down the road for something better is a waste of time. Step 1 is keep the our studs out of the transfer portal.

there's no non-expendable "studs" on a 3-9 team

3-7 wins with occasional 9-10. Wasn't the lack of passing, it was the lack of NFL caliber players (recruiting AND development). We got somebody really bad at all the things we need to be good at in an attempt to improve 1 or 2 areas that could be addressed by assistants anyways.

We should be a bowl team with occasional breakout (10+, ACC title contention) seasons and (fewer) occasional seasons where we miss a bowl. As we discussed in a prior thread, GT's academic profile as well as the general CFB landscape has shifted from when Gailey was here and our ceiling is lower.

I think making a bowl game every year is doable, and then some 10 wins seasons and beating the mutts almost half the time. That is satisfactory and realistic for this program. The men before Collins have shown this is possible.

Our floor should be 6 wins and 50/50 in bowls.
If we beat the Mutts 1 out of 3 with the occaissional back-to-back over them that would be nice.
If we're top 25 3/5 years and top 10 1/7 with ACC Champs and NY6 bowl those years I could support that.
What I can't handle is a surprise win against what turns out to be a bad team (2019 - NC ST, 2020 - F$U, 2021 - UNC) balanced against utter embarassment.

Honestly if we ditched the ACC for a G5 conference, scrapped the Clemson and Ugag rivalries, and hired Bohannon just to get more wins I'd be fine with that.

Did your balls fall off? I rather us just pull the plug on the program than downgrade to the Group 5. We can win at a high level, just need the right coach/coaches.

You're probably right.

I just want the embarrassmet to stop. It is humiliating being an Alumnus and fan these days.

We should be a perpetual fringe-Top 25 team that the lesser programs pencil in as a loss before the season starts. I'll accept not being a powerhouse, but there is zero reason for us not to achieve some sort of Iowa/Wisconsin/Kansas State/VPISU level of success.

Understood. We're all right there with you. Seeing Bobby Dodd in a "sea of red" and their arrogant coach say poke fun should bother all of us. We just have to hope Collins makes some good highers.

Bowl game every year is the minimum. With the number of bowls out there and the fact that we play in the ACC, there’s no reason this shouldn’t be achievable.

Beating U[sic]GA once in a while, cracking the top 25 every now and then, occasionally making a run like 2014 is about as high as I think we can reasonably expect at this point.

When was the last time a coach was close to 50/50 against U[sic]GA?

O'Leary was 3-5 back in the mid-late 90s, which I would say counts. Before that you have to go back to Carson, who was 2-3 from '67-'71.

Go back several years before that and you reach Dodd.

Very few teams have gone 500 against uga since Richt took over. GOL got to face off against a pretty mediocre uga coaching staff.

But I think a better indicator is QB, not coach.

Joe Ham was 2-2. Goose was 1-1, I think. Nesbitt was 1-1. JT5 2-1. Going outside of GT, I’m guessing Newton and Tebow have winning records.
