There was another thread that talked about expectations, but I thought I begin anew to impart my wisdom....

Some have said 6 wins, some say we have the talent for 7 even 8. Perhaps. Perhaps not. We're gonna lose some players in the transition, that's just the way it is, especially at Tech.

Brothas and sistas, we are gonna lose one or two we shouldn't, especially in the early going. The coach is gonna be getting adjusted to new players and vice-versa.

As for me, it's not how many we win or lose this first year, it's how we progress through the year. I want to see marked improvement in games 10 & 11 over games 1 and 2. I want to see some young players' light come on and be candidates for rookie of the year. I want some veterans to continue to mature and develop. I want to see the offense mold over the course of the season into a well-oiled machine.

In short, under Gailey, we rarely improved over the course of the season, or more accurately, would show improvement one week, then step back the next. It cost him his job.

Under Richt, this season, UGa suffered some bad losses early, but ended up with an outshot shot at the frickin' national championship game!!

Something like that's what I got in mind. I expect to see distinct improvement regardless of wins and losses. (The NC game would be gravy...)

I think 6 wins the 1st year is a reasonable expectation

I have very high expectation for next season but I won't necessarily measure output by wins and losses. Make no mistake - I want to win every game and I think that should be the goal.

There are some things that will negatively affect the team:

CPJ, his staff, and the players all need to learn how to function together. That includes personality issues, style issues, technical issues adapting CPJ's system to current players, and vice versa.

There are already rumors of recruits decommitting and players transferring. Some of this is expected and will indeed happen. I have to believe that CPJ has anticipated this. After all, "this ain't his first rodeo." He'll talk to the team and if some of them still want to leave then I say we shake their hands and wish them well. If they don't want to be here then they shouldn't be here.

There are some things that will be better:

I guarantee that the team will be prepared. That seems to be a key tenet of Johnson's philosophy.

We'll play with intensity for the whole game, every game. I have no fault with the team's intensity this year but there clearly were times when the intensity level and focus dropped off dramatically.

There will be more excitement and sense of purpose. I haven't felt either of those in the past few years.

We'll win some games. Maybe not 9 or 10 but we'll win some.

The bottom line to me is if we come to the field prepared and play hard and seem like we have a mission then I'll be happy. With all that in place it doesn't matter to me whether we win 1 or 10. I'm not rationalizing at all - I want to win 11 and kick the crap out of the mutts. It's more important to me to get the program back on track. We get that done and we'll be big time soon and for a while.

If we don't win at least 9 games with the talent we have I will be extremely pissed.

Was in the car all morning yesterday with the kids basketball around town, listening to 790 the zone.
As discussed, we will be very potent on offense IMMEDIATLEY..Think Nesbitt, Dwyer, Roddy Jones, Jamal Evans, Embrey Peoples. All will be very talented underclassmen that could be the next coming of WVU (White,Slaton,Devine)

We just better hope PJ commits to a good DC and we still have good defenses. If we do..LOOK OUT!!!

Very very tough schedule next year. You have a new coach, a new system, new defensive backfield, new quarterback likely...9 wins would be a lot, but I'm hopeful.

These would all be definite pluses in my book.

I say we kick ass and take names.

That's just setting CPJ up to fail. Have you looked at our schedule? 9 wins is a bit far-fetched to be the minimum number of wins you'll accept next year.

If we get 9 wins next year we should give Johnson a raise. 9 wins next year will be an amazing feat.

I'm not setting him up to fail. We paid good money for a very good coach who I expect to win at least 9 games. If he doesn't I'm not calling for his head but I'm sick and tired of people saying we have all this talent but yet predict and say 6 wins will be great.

AMEN!!!

You guys are jumping the gun either way, expecting a lot or not much, since we don't know the important factors yet:
- if we keep tenuta.
- what players stay.
- what recruits we get.
After we know all those, and things settle, you can have expectations.

I expect this recruiting class to be less than stellar. We all should have known that going in to the coaching transition. I expect next years to be good, though, and the year after that to totally rock.

Getting lost in all the coaching discussion are a few things that don't change. Mainly we're still losing most of our defense. The young talent will be good, but UF this year has shown that even the most highly regarded defensive talent will not help with inexperience. Especially if Tenuta leaves, we could be looking at another 1999.

At least the external expectations won't be so high.

The 2009 and 2010 seasons might be outstanding though.

Look, ya'll are missing my point: whether we win 5 or we win 9, if we can see significant improvement over the course of the season, we will know we got the right guy.

Not seeing demonstrable improvement doesn't mean he ain't the right guy, but it won't be encouraging, either.
