regarding his refusal to play TB when RB was in the tank in today's AJC. He said he owed it to the Tech fans, and particularly to the Old Guard. I don't know if I am considered "Old Guard" but I am an old fart and I am demanding an explanation. But he owes it more to the players, the player's parents, his coaches, and to D Rad who is trying to build our program.
Oh, but wait a minute, I just realized something! There is no logical explanation!
We should all demand better decision making in the future and not accept poor decisions which down grade our program.
My 2 sense worth.

It's Called Employee Review ...

and ADDR should be having one with CCG soon. At that point he should be able to offer an explanation to his boss. Then they will decide whether public explanations are required and necessary for the good of the program. His boss will need to decide if a correction of his employee is needed and what steps should be taken for future bebenfit of the program.

This idea that we as fans are somehow entitled to explanations re: coaching actions because we post on an internet message board is ludicrus.

It's a sad sad day when GT's coaches or anyone associated with GT has to reply to anyone at the Atlanta Journal Constitution for anything.

As far as I'm concerned, there was no article to answer. That seems to me to be about the calibur attention that AJC has given GT.

What the heck!!!

you are right about that cycle. But if you are more than just a poster and support GT football with your hard earned dollars, then you should expect an explanation, just as you would from any freaking business you were a customer of. Yes, college football is now a BIG business whether you like it or not and should be run like one. Our alumni base is very small compared to the schools we compete with and the only chance of filling the stands on Saturdays is to attract outside fans and treat them with respect.

Gailey will never answer him.
And he shouldn't--there was nothing wrong when we wiped out VT--TB did well and I'm looking forward to the next 3-4 games before an annointment.

If you want an answer Bogey then you are free to e-mail him, or schedule an appointment to see him face to face. If he won't respond then you should let his boss know that you find his closed mouth behavior unacceptable to you as a "stockholder". If his boss has a problem with that type of response from the coach, then he can modify his behavior. If not, then your problem is with the policies of our Athletic Department and not the coach. At that point you can decide whether to continue to shop "Home Depot" or switch to "Lowe's". I just think it is silly every time I see a post on an internet message board "demanding" a public explanation from our coach.

Who here thinks Gailey does not owe the fan base (screw the AJC) an explanation for playing and starting Reggie?

Seriously. Here is a man paid a lot of money to do what is right by Tech football. It was apparent to everyone that Reggie was NOT the man. EVERYONE. And yet we still got him. Why? I want to know and I think Gailey needs to answer that question.

Well, let's see BOR. CG wants secretly to lose and put it to GT and its fans, he is a racist, he started one year in hs and plays a great game of online FB. If you had gone to any of the practices from day 1 of his freshman year you would have seen that RB beat out his competition easily. Some who have been privy to the private practices said that TB had the light go on this last month and had started looking good in practice. Gailey owes no answer to Bisher for anything. He played the guy he thought gave us the best chance to win. TB had an unbelievable game in the Gator Bowl and still lost. We'll see if he is the answer come next year. If he had blown it in the bowl, the cries of CG and PN not being able to develop a QB would replace the cries for why didn't he play TB. A no win situation and ample opportunity for those who want to pee and moan. If you think you give more to GT than me, just ignore the ravings of someone not so good as yourself.
But, for the record, I too would have liked for CG to have givenTB a series or two in the UNC, UGAG and WF games.

What can Chan Gailey possibly say now that would make things better with his "stakeholders"?

1. I'm not very good at evaluating talent and practice time is alot different than game time...

2. I have a hard time in revisitng my decisons, just hate it when I'm wrong......

3. Reggie is a winner and I thought he would pull out of his slump.....

4. Nix is the OC and I let him make those kind of decisions (my favorite)....

I'm not expecting a reply, I just expect him to stop making the same mistakes in the future. And, I'm counting on Dan R. to make sure that is the case.

When I'm dead and gone, I hope people will say that my worst "mistakes" were my loyalty and trust in others. Loyalty appears to be the root of ALL of Gailey's "mistakes".

- Trust in Braine that S-A academic oversight was in control
- Loyal to Dave Wilson as special teams coach and recruiting coordinator
- Loyal to Reggie Ball, one of the hardest working and dedicated S-As in Gailey's tenure
- Loyal to Travis Bell last year when he was dealing with the shanks (Bell came back to have a pretty good season)

Loyalty should be earned. Misplaced loyalty shows a lack of judgment and borders on outright stupidity.

Further, loyalty to staff and players should never come before loyalty to the employer and shareholders.

Loyalty should be earned? How? By hard work during the week and offseason? Reggie's earned the staffs loyalty that way. By play on the field? He's had good and bad performances - and had a decent SR season until the UGAg game kicked off.

Loyalty to the staff? Gailey canned Wilson, maybe a 1 yr or 2 too late but he did it. We've seen immediate benefits in recruiting and the results were inconclusive for special teams. He's now given Nix a chance, and there's been some good and bad in his first season - definitely not enough proof that he can't handle the responsibility of play-calling. I would like to see better development of the QBs.

It's human nature to be more loyal to the people you work the closest with (the players, the staff in his case). While he certainly needs to be held accountable by is employer, I'd be very concerned if he's making decisions based on what "the stakeholders" are doing and saying. I sat in front of a guy one season that called for the "half-back pass" every other play (no lie) - I doubt he's even the most ignorant "stakeholder" of the bunch.

Reggie worked hard during the offseason? How's that? Do you call failing classes hard work? Do you call not showing up to class hard work? Do you call practicing a throwing motion you should have learned in high school hard work? Do you call 44% completion percentage hard work and good game preparation? Please explain.

Contactbuzz,

Perhaps we both should start by defining “loyalty”, in the Chan Gailey, his staff and the players, and the GT arena.

From the top down, I believe Chan is being loyal when he fairly evaluates those below him, provides them with rewards for a job well done, constructive feedback and whatever support he can to do their job better. He should also give them private and public praise and credit for a job well done. When they screw up, he should let them know about it privately but publicly defend them.

This does not mean he should cover for someone who is not performing, “if you can’t speak well of someone then remain silent” is not bad advise. (IMO Chan Gailey should have deflected the comments from the media trying to draw out comparisons between Reggie Ball and Taylor Bennett with say, a comment on Taylor’s hard work and fine game.)

In turn, the staff and players owe Chan support for his administration of the program publicly and if there is a disagreement on direction or strategy, they should confront him with their position privately. They owe him their very best efforts; including making the required GPA to stay eligible., and following the teams rules about personal conduct.

They should never engage in behavior or make public statements that would be in conflict with the direction he has set out for the program or that might be construed as critical of another player or coach, no matter how dumb Nix’s play calling can be at times.

What loyalty does Chan Gailey owe GT? His best efforts to win games. On top of that, he should run the program in such a manner that his program's reputation and everyone involved in it is always a credit to GT; including conversations to the media.

Do you see this differently?

What does any of that have to do with hard work in the off season? Hate on Reggie and Chan all you want but at least make some sense.

not sure who this is addressed to but if it's me please clarify because I can't connect your dots.....

As much as I enjoyed seeing the average ND team get smoked last night by a great team, I was impressed by the way Charlie Weiss addressed how he needed to do a better job. He specifically commented on how the season ended disappointingly because of the last two games. Weiss understands that it's how you finish.
