Tonight Rutgers has had a fake field goal AND a fake punt that went for a TD and a big play. This is one area that I feel we've lacked under Gailey. We just don't take the chances. Are we scared? It's a BIG risk/reward scenario but I just wonder why we don't take more risks.

We tried against Maryland last year and it blew up in our face and the entire stadium boooooooooeed. I thought it was a giant leap just for Gailey to even try something like that.

btw, it was really ugly too. It really had that look as if it'd never even been practiced, it was atrocious.

Trick plays are just that, tricky: if they're successful, coach is a hero, if not, "booooooooooo" u idiot

Difficult decision to make for a coach.

It worked great against Auburn in '03.

also...when your defense is playing very well you do not take the low odds of being successful on the fake FG or FP.

You see this more in the wild west or the Big East because those conferences do not play good defense.

For every trick play you see work, there are 3 that fail.

If you're craving trick plays, lets get a bunch of guys together and meet up at the sand lot down the street. Otherwise, lets let the coaches use the very limited practice time to spend on the playbook and fundamentals. Thats what wins football games, not gimmics that work less than half the time.

Hey on 4th and 1 against Clemson we lined up like we were going to run the play, but we pulled the ole try to lure them offsides move and took a 5 year penalty for delay of game and punted...what guts!

Dodd and Rodgers both used to quick-punt on 3rd down quite a bit. Maybe we could try that, too.

;-)

We did a successful onsides kick to start the 2nd half last year in the Gator Bowl.

...Followed by 3 and out.

*edit* I don't really know if we went 3 and out but chances are good *edit*

We have indeed done plenty of ST trickery plays under Gailey. Certainly more than under O'Leary.

No, no, no Les Miles does it every week, and the SEC plays hella defense, Saban attempted one last week @ Ole Miss also, and Tuberville, well, the Riverboat Gambler is just that.

When you have the talent of LSU you can afford to do a lot of things other teams cannot. They are one of three programs (LSU, Texas, SoCal) that are simply ridiculously loaded with athletes that have nothing to worry about except football.

The only reason LSU lost to Kentucky (because watching you knew who had the better athletes) was that they made so many head errors it was laughable.

yes they definitely should've taken care of Kentucky, I'm interested to see Fla go to Lexington today.
