CNW was in a really secure position at App St, but left it and moved his family to a new town. Now, after just one year, he might be looking for work. And unfortunately, his first year results were a little ambiguous.

In other words, CPJ's retirement could have the effect of pushing CNW back down the coaching ladder. If he'd been given another year or two to prove himself, then CPJ's departure potentially doesn't have that effect on him.

I realize our defense wasn't great this year, but I liked his sideline demeanor and his GIFs. Best of luck to him.

Concur. CPJ's retirement will have far reaching effects across the coaching world, it seems.

He will be fine. The short stints for coordinators is pretty common.
I'm sure he will be employed. But he was on an upward trajectory, and now more likely he moves back to FCS as a DC, or a position coach at FBS. Unless of course he gets retained here, which would be fine with me. But he's certainly not a 'hot name' among DC's.

Surely he knew he was coming into a potentially risky opportunity?

:dunno:
During the news conference someone asked CPJ about how this would affect his staff, and very politely he said he just had to do what was right for him. My suspicion is that CNW asked him about this before coming down here, and CPJ provided some kind of assurances. But of course everyone knows you can't predict the future.

Oh boo hoo...This is the game you play when you decide to move on from any job to another. Cry me a river ya woman.

Doesnt he have a $600k contract with us for 2019?
That's what I was thinking. It's unusual for assistants to have more than a one year contract, but sometimes coordinators do. Ted had a multi-year contract.

Part of the reason I want Satterfield, I think Woody would get to stay and keep continuity and building the D up.
Not a good reason for picking a coach. The risk of CPJ leaving at the end of 2018 was always there, either by firing, getting hired away, or resigning. CNW had to be aware of that. And after the 1-3 start he probably thought is was very probable.

He’ll be fine. There are some coaches on our staff that probably never coach again though.
