Final Thoughts

This day every year is either the best or the worst day of the year. Today was no exception. My disappointment was in our lack of competitive spirit early on. The defense gave up the early drive. Then we get a first down running the football and pick up four on the next play. The second and six pass call was poor. The kickoff return to cut the lead to 14-7 was great. But, the defense played soft and then CPJ pushed in all of the chips going for the 4th and 6 early in the 2nd. We should have tried to punt them deep. But, CPJ wanted to let Woody know he was pissed. We went for it, missed, and one play later it’s 28-7. Game over. The half time comment that we needed to get the ball more was awful. We were terrible on both sides of the ball in the first half, not just on defense. I did not think our guys quit. They tried. But we were physically hit hard at the onset and were not up to the task. That was disappointing.

My final thoughts: whether we choose to admit it or not, Kirby is building Alabama lite in Athens. The team he put on the field today is what we can expect to see in the future and the result against the triple option will be the same. We should be gracious he put in the backups early in the 3rd quarter.
