a perfect example of how jack'd up the rankings or ranking system in general are/is

tonight with about 2:30 to go in the game, Craig James said it loud and clear!!

"How is Ole Miss #4? Well, basically by default"

Thats how f'd up the whole thing is and why I keep harpin' on it

He also went on to say that Miami without question is deserving of a top 5 ranking.

Ole miss isn't what's advertised and the first team they play and not even a GREAT team but a mid level SEC team who's Offense and Defense is as shaky as a leaf on a tree.

Go rebels.....all the way down the Poll

Now it's obvious just how utterly f'n ridiculous and quite frankly the polls are at this point in the season and why Preseason Polls are a gd joke.

Ole Miss was #4 due to their win against UF and TT in the Cotton Bowl last year.

if only America or the Poll/BCS/Conference leaders would wise the F#$% up

There should be no polls until the 3rd or 4th week, but that'll never happen because you can't make as much money if every game is unranked vs. unranked.

and you can't sell 942 different types of Preseason Mags just to see which one ranks you higher

what a freakin' joke.....I'm just finally glad a "professional" has finally eluded to it

He's not even close to the first professional to elude to it...or say it outright.

Rankings are a joke, everyone knows it and says it.

It just boils down to $ as has been mentioned.

Thanks Rod

.... and it's Wreck .....last time I checked MR Techno Chair

Actually, thats interesting. Its Wreck almost everywhere EXCEPT with the RR club. They have always used Reck.

In other news, no need to be a douche about that.

If you keep everything the same except swap Ole Miss with LSU, they wouldn't drop out of the top 10. Ole Miss will drop further because they aren't historically ranked as high. They may deserve to drop, but other teams with 1 loss are just as deserving as Ole Miss.

If you heard it, the SEC love-fest crap continued last night in the waning seconds of the SC/Ole Miss game when South Carolina was declared a "Top 15 program" by the boys in the booth.

You know why we have polls and they are significant? Because of the BCS. If we had a playoff system, polls wouldn't be as significant. For example, look at the NFL. They have power rankings put out by all the sports media outlets, but they don't have polls that determines who plays in the "bowl games."

Yes, I know, college basketball has a playoff and still has polls. But these polls don't really matter in the end, because they merely determine where you will be seeded in the tournament. Just another argument for why the BCS and ancient bowl system is retarded.

As long as the bowls are lining the pockets of the big boys, we won't be going to a playoff system. Money is more important than determining who is the undisputed champion of college football.

I am one of the very few anti-playoff supporters. I think the live-and-die by every game is what separates College Football from NFL. I love CFB because literally every game is important. If there were a playoff system like in NFL, then I'd say "Oh well, we lost one, no big deal, we can still make the playoffs".

I think it adds to the excitement of every game knowing that if you lose any, or even perform poorly in one, it can affect your chances at playing in a big game.

In a game where injuries are more common than in any other popular sport and where injuries to major players (OU with Bradford out) can lose game for you, I think there should be a redeeming quality for teams who have lost a couple of games. LSU proved a few years ago that even though they lost 2 games, they were still one of the best teams in college football. By having a small playoff system, it wouldn't take the meaning out of the games. If you lose 3 or more, you more than likely won't make it. Last season, we probably wouldn't make an 8 team playoff. But Utah would have gotten a chance to play UF. Imagine that. Urban Meyer vs. the school he used to coach. Story lines galore.

But you are entitled to your opinion. I just think your argument (games wouldn't be as important) doesn't hold that much water for me.

Schultz agrees with you today.

Overall, seven top 10 teams and 10 top-15 teams already have lost, and we’ve bare touched Week 4.
The fact that three top-5 teams have lost to unranked teams is the really disturbing part. Are you starting to get the feeling that early-season rankings don’t mean anything?

Our Coach John Heisman thought that polls were a waste of time. Do you know why he ran up the score on Cumberland???

Heisman was tired of big schools running up the score on little schools and getting ranked really high for it. To show how rediculous this practice was/is he ran up the score to 222-0.

The NFL is the most successful sports league in America, college or pro, by leaps and bounds. Anything you can do to emulate it is probably a good thing. Yes, you made lose some excitement during the regular season(I don't think it would really be much), but think of what you would gain when it came playoff time. Or even after one loss...right now our best case scenario is to play in a BCS bowl that won't sell out and won't get high ratings. With a playoff system, we could still be gunning for a playoff berth.

Agree 100%. People say that playoffs would diminish meaning in the regular season. I think a playoff would create MORE meaning in the regular season because more teams would have a chance at a NC toward the end of the year. Almost every team with 1 or 2 losses would still be fighting for a chance at a playoff berth at the end of the year. All those games would be critical and relevant to the NC. it would be a lot more exciting and fun imo. And there's no comparison between the excitement of a 8-to-16 team playoff and the meaningless crappy bowl games we have. A 16 team playoff would create 15 postseason games that were all absolutely crucial to the NC picture. Compare that to the UGA-Hawaii and Va Tech-Cincy matchups that we are supposed to get all stoked about.

I could care less how 'successful' college football is. As long as I enjoy watching it, that's all I care about. And as I said before, it's my personal opinion. I can see all the pros of having a playoff system, but I personally think that it's great the way it is. I mean look how much discussion takes place about college football teams because of the ranking system. How much discussion would go away, and what would fill it's place if there were a playoff system?

I thought it was because Heisman was also the coach of the baseball team and Cumberland embarrassed GT at a baseball game by running up the score.

Then Cumberland dissolved its football team, and Heisman wanting revenge, threatened to fine the school if they didn't show up for the game. so a bunch of un-coached Cumberland frat boys lost 222-0 and Heisman had his revenge.

I never heard about proving polls were dumb...

I get that and agree. I'm saying it's a joke to have any poll until at minimum the 4th week .... 5th or 6th would be ideal
