It'll be interesting to know what the fanbase truly think on CCG's possibility of "firing" or "keeping".
Please list the reasons that you feel CCG should be axed and also the reasons you feel he should stay. At present, the popular opinion across the board is to axe CCG. But, is that really wise? Maybe it is, maybe not. You tell us all.

Firing:
1) I don't see GT football program improving much as the season moves along.
2) QB's; we seem to have a hard time getting our QB's to rise to the needs on a consistent basis.
3) Can't beat UGA.
4) CCG has very little media appeal. (this doesn't amount to a hill of beans w/football but he does need to always be selling fans on GT)
5) Fanbase split. Will the majority of GT fans ever be able to back CCG again?

Keeping:
1) Has a lot of experience as a coach.
2) Has at least had an above .500 season each year.
3) Got caught up in the legal debacle of NCAA for a probation period.
4) Flunkgate; not his responsibility but was his albatros.
5) Impeccable character, which is one thing more schools need to be considering when hiring coaches.

This is only a beginning. You share what you will.

As a bonus, in your eyes, was Saturday's loss due to CCG's coaching? Officiating? Botched plays?

Five for keeping:

1) Six consecutive >.500 seasons
Last time this happened was '61-'66.
Coupled with GO'Ls last five seasons gives GT 11 consecutive >.500 seasons --last time this happened was during 18 consecutive between '08-'25.

2) 1 ACCCG appearance, 1 Coastal Division title.
GT has won only two ACC championships since becoming eligible in '83.
The Coastal win came during only the sixth 9+ win season since Bobby Dodd's retirement.

3) Big wins.
'02- #17 (9-0) NCSt
'03- Auburn
'04- #18 Clemson, @#23 Maryland
'05- @#16 Auburn, @#3 (8-1) Miami
'06- @#11 (4-0) VT
'07- @ND (I know, but it was early and it was ND), #13 (4-0) Clemson

4) Recent up-tick in recruiting.
Will GT shows signs of getting better as the last two classes mature, the hangover from 'flunkgate' and scholly limitations will have subsided.

5) Chan Gailey, the person, is a fine representative of GT. I have heard him speak at two local FCA gatherings (my wife is the FCA leader at North Forsyth HS) and I have spoken with him on both occasions --he is a nice gentleman.

Five for firing:

1) 0-6 vs. UGA.
No other coach has lost six in a row to UGA.
Bill Curry lost his first four, but did win in '84 & '85.
Bobby Dodd lost his last four, but won eight in a row from '49-'56.

2) Lack of QB development.
I now see why RB was a four-year starter --it was out of necessity. But the guy never improved --if anything he digressed. TB has done nothing without CJ. JN has done nothing but run from the shotgun.

3) Bad losses:
'02- UGA (51-7), Fresno St (missing several starters, 30-21)
'03- Clemson (39-3), Duke (41-17)
'04- UNC (34-13), UVA (30-10)
'05- VT (51-7), NCSt (17-14), Utah (38-10)
'06- Clemson (31-7), WF (9-6)
'07- Maryland (28-26), VT (27-3)

The two (bad) bowl losses --CG is 2-3 in bowls-- have been part of the cause for GT's #1 all-time bowl winning percentage falling to #3.

4) No ACC championship and no Top 25 finishes.
This during a recent decline in the overall strength of the ACC.

5) Divided fanbase.
It's time for a fresh start.

knox,
this is not about re-hashing. Matter of fact, it's reason is for anything but that. I've said it before and I'll say it again, I stood firmly behind CCG for 4 1/2 years. Last year I began to wonder if he could do what we really would like for GT. The list I started with at top is just a partial list as it was intended to give anyone who wanted an idea of what the post is about.
I do believe that CCG has become a "whipping boy" to some degree and even if GT were to be Nat.Champ next year under his coaching, I doubt he would receive any credit for it. A good bit of the things that have happened to make people dislike his coaching were really not his fault, such as critically bad officiating calls that turned a game sour. Receivers just not catching passes laid right in their hands, such as Earls last Sat on the long bomb. Overall, I'd say the officiating has been fair to both sides, but it does also look like to me when they blow a call, it is a detrimental call for GT. At the same time, he's not been able to develop a QB that could be depended on for the most part of the game.
The reasons for these things are not known to me, so I was curious to see what you and the rest of the fans had to say.
Have a great day!!
