Former Tech Coaches in the USFL

I hope it lasts and becomes the de facto NFL minor league. Maybe it will return College Football to being truly amateur STUDENT athletes.

There are some familiar names listed as assistants..... LINK

Jerry Glanville had been rumored amongst us OldeFartekkers as possibly going to Tampa, but not listed here.

The franchise names are the same, but they're trying to dissociate from the 1980s version.

I think Tech has had former coaches and/or players in just about every second tier professional football league there's ever been.

Former Tech backfield coach Charlie Tate was head coach of the Jacksonville Sharks/Express of the old World Football League (WFL).

Former Tech D-coordinator Marvin Bass was head coach of the Birmingham Vulcans of the WFL.

Pepper Rodgers was head coach of the Memphis Showboats in the original USFL. His players included the great Reggie White and the not-as-great pro/fake wrassler, Lex Luger.

Former Tech QB coach Steve Superior was head coach of the Tampa Bay Bandits in the original USFL, and of the Orlando Apollos in the Alliance of American Football (AAF).

For Tech assistant coach Jerry Glanville coached for the Tampa Bay Vipers in the "new" XFL. He also coached in the Canadian Football League, and was hired to be head coach of the Hartford Colonials of the United Football League, but they folded soon after so he never coached a game for them.

As far as former players, Tom Luginbill has coached in NFL Europe, the original XFL and the Arena League.

I'm guessing there are a bunch more.
