Franchione

If he moves on, it signals another investigation at Bama, that could really hurt them.

Bama deserves it. They got off light with the last investigation, just because of their name. They had just come off the probation from the Jelks investigation. They we're knocking on the death penalties door. If the same had happened at an Ole Miss for example, Ole Miss would have been banned from television for 2 years lost a ton of scholarships, and would have been locked out of bowls 2 years minimum.

Coach Fran has declined to accept a 10 yr, $15 million contract from Alabama. He has stated clearly that the contract is not finalized yet, though.

I really think he's hedgeing his bets. I think he's dragging his feet on the contract issue, to wait to see if the NCAA will re-open the case, and if so, how bad it's looking. If Coach Fran sees ANY new sanctions, I think he'll run as fast as he can. The reports that he has already resigned at Alabama are probably over-stated, but he is probably as close to leaving as he is to staying, and with the A&M job opening up, I wouldn't be a bit suprised to see him there (or Nebraska if they let Solich go).

Fran also needs the 'Bama offer so that T A&M will match or better it. He's got it great both ways: a super good offer to stay & a super good offer to leave. A reason for leaving, further investigations beyond the ones he knew about when he agreed to the job, & at least a matching offer in the land of recruits, which he knows well from his days @ TCU.
The mistake would be staying a red elephant. PS:here's another article on the same subject from San Antonio.
Franchione to leave Alabama

Ace, I'm in school here in Birmingham, I heard Coach Fran deny that article on the news tonight. Nevertheless, I hear what you're saying.

You're right about the best of both worlds. Also, if he can beat Awbern tomorrow, and then Hawaii, he will have lost like 2 games in two years, and been 2-0 against the big rival. That's HUGE. He will be able to beat the current Bama offer easily, regardless of which school he ends up at.

<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">There was a great article in SI about the Death Penalty handed to SMU and how it destroyed the program.

The consensus is that the death penalty will never be used again, and is compared to using the A-bomb on Hiroshima.

Come to think of it, though, will there be a Nagasaki? -not on such a huge program as 'Bama, I would guess.

Buzznazz---There a few things you need to know about GT ACE.

1.First of all he could outsmoke a Reggae band.
He could also out-smoke a 3 acre barbecue pit. He needs a "doobie" just to get him to psychiatric care.

2. Secondly he BEElieves in Bill Fulcher. In ohter words GtAce needs two promotions just to be delusional.

3. 3rd--He thinks Propaganda is a country in Africa.

4. 4th--He's my buddy. In other words I've got his back.

"....When the hell is somebody going to go on the record in this case"
That line is right up there with
"Take the gun......leave the cannelones"

"Tessio" sleeps with the fishes"

I discussed this with a Bammer fan on a plane ride home from Vegas. I asked him about the rumors of Fran leaving. He mentioned something interesting to me that I was unaware of. Coach Fran's father recently passed away and he was buried in a Univ. of Alabama golf shirt (this is what I was told). His point was I doubt he'd bury his Dad in Alabama stuff and then leave. I don't know.
