Didn't do much better then Gailey at a school with no academic standards, an open door to admit and enroll complete criminals. Was the Big East tougher back then, then the ACC ? I don't know. We live in different times 15 years later. Beamer would be fired today.

Virginia Tech was the joke of NCAA football before Beamer got there. Significantly different than the situation Chan inherited.

And Bowden was fired at West Virginia. VPI was a joke, but you could see improvement. Also, if you can recruit in Blacksburg and Morgantown, we should be able to recruit in Atlanta.

Just that Va. Tech may well have fired Beamer if the timeline were different, and now they worship him as a deity.

apples & oranges... Beamer BUILT Va. Tech and those records are paltry but his 3rd and 4th seasons indicated he'd better than anything else Va. Tech ever had.

They went to 6 bowls game in like 90 years before he got there. We won 4 national championships before CCG...

You could definitely see improvement in Beamer's teams when he was losing. They were tough as nails in 1990 when we won the NC. We only beat them 6-3. And they were 6-5 that year. I remember thinking that VT was going to be good.
