Talked with a fine gentleman in Starbucks off I-85 in Commerce on the way home Saturday night. His son is an All-star LB for Gardner-Webb who missed the game with injury. The man was very complimentary of our stadium and the hospitality of fans, which I was glad to hear.

I complimented the team's effort. He said that they had indeed played their hearts out, that this was the biggest stage they would ever play on in their careers and though disappointed with the loss, they were proud of what they accomplished.

Games like this give Davids a chance to take on Goliaths. They are fun for the Goliaths when we win 56-0. But, you have to be impressed when the Davids give the big guys all they can handle and more. I've seen it before from UTC and Furman. As a football fan, you have to give some credit to those Gardner-Webb kids.

I was pleased to see one of our coaches, it may have been Monken, run down the sidelines after their last second kick was deflected and wide, shouting to all of our team - "Every one of you will head straight over to their team after this kneel down and tell those guys what a great game they played." It was a class thing to do.
