I have come to the conclusion everyone complains unless you score 40 pts per game....then the fans of those teams complain about defense!

Most that I see

aren't looking for 40 points per game. I think most here would be happy with somewhere between 20-30 (hopefully closer to 25-30, imo).

No one is calling for Tech to be the #1 team in the nation in points per game. We're just looking to become average!

I'd be happy with 23-24 a game, that would be vast improvement over last years 18.5 average and seven of 12 games scoring 17 points or less.

In fact, going back to last years Va Tech game through the ND game, GT has put fewer than 18 points on the board in eight of the last 10 games.

Maybe next week will present itself as an opportunity to turn these statistics around for the better.

Ain't that the truth!

7......7......7......7.......?

What is the next number in the sequence?

:-p

The most ppg we have averaged under Gailey is 22. Over the past 6 seasons, only 16 times has there been a team to average less than 22 points per game and had a winning record. We represent 4 of those 16 teams. We are the only team on the list more than once.

Only 3 of the 16 won more than 7 and 1 of the 3 took a 13th game to get there.

Ray Lewis was being interviewed the other day on the topic of McNair. He said he went to McNair and said "hey, can you get us 15, 17 points a game?" McNair said "are you kidding me? Put us down for 24 points a game." Lewis' response was that if true the Miami Dolphins record could be in jeopardy.

I've been rooting for two teams with absolutely identical personas the last five years and it would be nice if one of them broke out offensively.

Wow. That's some telling stuff.

Good post Hiveredtech. I like how you see things about our offense like I do. Funny how the same thing that has gone on on this board about our offense is also going on on the scUM boards. We are not the only ones who didn't have an offensive showcase. scUM really should have had an offensive showcase since they hired a supposedly better staff. Raise doubts about our offense midway through the season after we have played few games but not after one game against a defense that wasn't as bad as everyone(including me) was expecting.

First of all, let me something to our poor points production last year. Looking at the yards gained throughout last season, we weren't that horrible in relation to other ACC teams, but we dropped off suddenly in the points column. I admit it was a major problem. Sure, you wouldn't expect 25 points against Miami or Georgia last year, but we didn't get it done against the likes of Virginia and NC State.

This happened for two reasons:

- We missed so many field goals throughout the year, costing us one, maybe two games over the season (Thanks Dave Wilson).

- We did awful in the Red Zone and short yardage situations. Without being able to stretch the field, our OL had problems playing the other defense straight up.

Now, I want to continue to the ND game, and point out something that everybody is missing. While we scored 10, the almighty hailed offense of ND also scored 14, way below average and something to be ashamed of, right? Was it Quinn, or the OL, or Weis that was the problem?

Instead they scored 14 (although I admit it should have been 20) for a distinct reason: Weis played the time of possession perfectly in the second half, getting multiple third down conversions for 10+ play drives. His long drives killed both the crowd and the defense. The 14-10 score did NOT happen due to Chan acting in a vacuum and actually happened because of Weis moreso than Chan.

Of course, I wish we were on the other side of that TOP battle, but their defense did an excellent job of stuffing us in short yardage situations and ending our drives. I mean, we actually just had one 3 and out that game, but inevitably we couldn't keep drives alive while ND could.
