Fullmer @ UT

You knew that was coming. I hope we can say the same.

I respectfully disagree. That is a silly and reactionary move. Throwing your colleagues under the bus to pacify a bunch of people that just want something to talk about is wrong.

A good manager makes his reports better...these guys had been with him as along as 9 years...did they just forget how to coach...or was it just luck the previous 8 years.

This is what is wrong with college football.

Maybe I missed something here. I admit that I didn't hit the link on Rome's post. I assume it was about Fulmer firing the OL and receivers coach, as well as reassigning Randy Sanders from OC.

If that's what the link was about, I don't think what the Pumpkin did was any different than what happens everywhere to satisfy shareholders. This is not a stupid business analogy!

Obviously, there were some pretty serious problems on the preseason top 5 UT football team and I would think that the problems are not all Xs and Os.

Maybe Fulmer did fire these people to save his own hide, but that's not something exclusive to college football.

You make a VERY valid point here but PW does too. I think we all had a very good feeling this would happen, right or wrong. Personally, I felt like Fullmer caved in to fan pressure and decided his hide was worth more than the others. Those Tennessee folks have been know to send moving vans to a coach's house before and old Phil didn't want to wake up seeing a tractor trailer in his front yard. I realize coaching goes a long way in football, but at game time, a pass receiver will either catch the ball or he will drop it. The coach is standing off to the side and can't do a thing to help him. However, the coach can get all the blame. GO FIGURE!!

Rome, you are quite the politician! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugher.gif

Fortunately, or unfortunately this comes with the territory of being an assistant at a high profile football program. They know what they are getting into. They also have contracts, and shouldn't have a hard time finding a good job.

And......I like my bread buttered on both sides too.

That is wrong...and I would never do that. You do not term people that have a rut...you LEAD them out of it. You do not discover someone does not know how to do their job 9 years later. So...either Fulmer was an idiot for the 8 prevoius years and got lucky...or he is unethical this year.

That all being said...he could have been working with them on some things because they had become slack in their duties..and they chose not to turn it around. However, I do not think that is what happened.

You do not play sacrificial lamb with peoples lives. I can tell you first hand I have never done that...I have seen it done and those leaders typically crumble.
