So, this was referenced in EDSBS. This is an article about funny taunting during games.

Link

Sam Young talks about how he played GT freshmen year at Bobby Dodd and one of our DT poked him in the eye and said "Captain Insano shows no mercy". My guess is this was Joe. I just don't see Vance or DR doing something like this.

There appear to be two references to us in the article, its funny.

/Its true though, he doesn't show mercy

Eric Olsen: "There was a sign at Penn State that said 'Rudy was offsides' and they had a screenshot. I don't know if they edited it or if it was real or what, but he was offsides. It was funny."

Pretty sure he meant Georgia Tech.

Also,
Raeshon McNeil: "I have to say, hahaha, Georgia Tech freshman year, Darrin (Walls) came out there, Darrin's not the biggest guy, especially not freshman year and he came out with his little cut-off shirt on and their fans were pretty pumped up, pretty loose by that time. One guy's out there and he's like 'Do y'all have a weight room in South Bend?'

"That's my boy but we gave him crap about that for the longest. Oh man. I think he went out there with a long-sleeve shirt on every game after that. I don't think he went back out there with his cut-off on. It was pretty funny."

You must be too young to remember Kyle, but there were thousands of shirts that read "Rudy was offsides" being sold when ND came down here in 06.

I think that'd be Joe Anoi (forgive my spelling). He came from a family of wrestlers and the dude was probably giving him crap about it. That is a line from the water boy from the wrestling part. Captain Insano really deserved that name. He was quite the crazy one...even though he isn't really real.

I met a real sweet gal from Boise one time. I didn't get it. Misty forgive me! <rain.....more rain .....and then it started to ..rain.... tears, oh God, the flood of tears.. >

I got over it.

Throwing the fish at the domers who I think were numero uno and like Joe Theisman and we didn't stand a snowball in hell's chance in the game. Something like 56 - 0 with the 3rd string in by the half (Notre Dame's 3rd string).

Showed some real Tech class throwing fish at the jesuits. I'm proud of the fact that some of the student section showed up and had some balls even if it was wrong/tacky. Swarm?

College football. :D

I was at the '76 and '78 games.

The big loss (69-14) was in South Bend in 1977. It was payback for GT scheduling ND for Homecoming - and beating them - in 1976. As I recall, Dan Devine kept Joe Montana in at QB for most (if not all) of the game in '77.

The "fish" incident was in 1978, at Grant Field. And it wasn't just fish, it was bottles, and other trash, too. I remember the shower of silver falling from the student section on to the ND bench. What a sight that was! The officials stopped the game to restore order.

I missed the 2006 game due to circumstances beyond my control and I don't know that I'll ever forgive myself. When the players were getting ready to kick off I felt like I could have cried, I wanted to be there so badly.

isn't "Captain Insano shows no mercy" a line from Adam Sandler's THE WATERBOY?

edit: apologies to SUPERTECH1984 for not reading his post before I posted

That's why my dawg friend calls them "mackerel snappers".
