Future Bright for Georgia Tech

here is a ajc article that just makes me all warm and fuzzy inside. Paul said our offense was not up to his standards even tho we produced the ACC player of the year. It also highlights that our backfield is young and adding a key guy. Seems like next season will be even better!

I like Paul Johnson because we could win a Cumberland-esque game, and he would still have problems with the way the team played. I have no doubts whatsoever that our offense will be something magnificent to behold by early as next season. I worry about our defense some, but hopefully we can keep bringing in the guys we need.

agreed our defense needs to get better. we started out the year great but slipped up down the stretch but that was mostly due to injuries.

ok if u knew the defense slipped off due to injuries why u keep whining about it. Defense is never a problem at TECH and never will. there are a lot of playmakers on defense at LB and DB and there some DL ready to step up an "eat" cuz they hungry to play. if we need to worry about anything it should be special teams. if that do not sured up it might cost us a game sooner or later.

Call me crazy, but I really loved our defense in '98. 8 straight games with a defensive TD is a pretty good stat.

True, and those defensive TDs helped to make up for a lot of scoring by some of our opponents that year. Unfortunately Edsall left to start up the UConn program and too many games became "he who has the ball last wins".

Which is what the last game almost was.

I don't think our defense was bad this season, by any stretch. I'm just worried with the youth we'll have next year. As much as I hate to say it, Corky Thatcher is a very talented QB, and he was playing lights out, with the exception of the pass to #1. Next season, we'll see how good Wommack really is. And I hope he's good.

Word up, dude.

Yup, but we did hold them a little in the 2nd half.

Face it, we're not going to see too many teams with the offensive skill players that Georgia had this year. Georgia themselves won't have that kind of QB/RB/WR combo next year. And we're going to score more.

I don't see next year becoming a 1999. Our 99 defense started a huge number of true freshmen.

Actually I thought our D was quite good this year. They certainly kept us in some games while the O was struggling.

Although we lose a HUGE load off of the D-line, most of the defense will be back. Wommack will have to change some of his schemes without having NFL defensive linemen to lean on, but our linebackers and d-backs should be improved.

Yup. Slowed 'em down some, sure 'nuff. I wasn't complaining about their performance in Athens, just sayin'. You're right - we likely won't face any combo as good next year.

I do think we may eventually get into some shootouts, but honestly, at some point I wonder if PJ just doesn't start going for 2 after every TD, to stretch the lead.
