Guys I see an increased number of NFL draft picks coming out of Tech beginning next year.
I see the following as locks to be drafted in the coming years:

D Richard, J Anoai, Calvin, K Scott, Choice, Wheeler, K- Mike, A Gardner.

The following have a great shot if they can step it up a bit more:

R Grant, Wrotto, D Robertson, J Johnson, M Cox

What do ya'll think?

Calvin and possibly Gardner are the only ones I see. But that could change after this year. Only Calvin was all-ACC (first team, second, and HM). The other all-ACC Tech players on the team were drafted this year except for Henderson.

Wrekker: Calvin Johnson is a lock. I'd say Phillip Wheeler is also. The rest, especially Daryl Richard and Joe Anoai stand a very good chance if they heed the warning set by Eric Henderson's snub. Every minute on that field and out of the training room is money in the bank when you have the talent and work ethic to play in the NFL.

Calvin is a given. I like Anoai, Scott, and Choice to get drafted. Richard, we'll see, but I think he will get drafted.

Wheeler is too small, unless they plan on moving him to safety. Gardner and K-Mike need to show me more. We'll have to see how Wrotto does on the OL. James Johnson hasn't shown any NFL caliber talent yet. Robertson and Rashaun haven't even started a game yet. Mike Cox is waaaaay to slow for the NFL.

Are we talking only draft picks or free agency as well?

Picks: CJ, D. Richard, Scott, and MAYBE Anoai - possibly at MLB.

Free Agents: Wheeler, K-Mike, Wrotto, Grant(assuming he plays more)

I can't decide on Choice yet. He hasn't started all 12 games. He could blow everyone away this year or he could be average. Time will tell.

Darryl Richard will definitely, without a doubt, be an NFL draft pick unless he has further knee trouble. He does exactly what NFL coaches look for in a DT. Even when the play is not designed for him, he executes perfectly his role to free up someone else to make a play. He rarely makes mistakes, has cat-like quickness, and is close to 300 lbs...plus he is nearly a genius that keeps his nose clean off the field.

You will see Kenny Scott get drafted. Not only does he play well, he will excel at the combine with size and speed.

Anoai stands a decent chance. Combine will mean a lot to him.

Most of the others still have some time left to get better and stronger.

What?? Gardner? Gardner will be a sophmore this season and is a long way away from being drafted. I don't see him getting drafted unless he puts on a lot more weight and gains some strength. But he is still young.

Calvin is a lock as a top 5 pick either next year or the one after that.
Darryl Richards will get drafted, but not next year. If he leaves early it will be after the 2007 season and he could very well be taken in the first round. He's that good people. But he's easily no worse than a 3rd round pick. He's one of the strongest players on the team and will more than likely if he stays healthy have an ALL-ACC season this year.

Anoai will get drafted sheerly because he's 1.) Tough as nails and 2.) Strong as hell. He may be undersized for a DT, but some team will draft him next year. probably somewhere between the 5th and 7th round.

I only see wrotto getting drafted if he puts together a great season. anything less at one year in his position will land him a FA contract.

Choice could be a 4th-5th round pick in a couple of years ala PJ.
Grant, has the possibility to be the same but has a long way to go.

Wheeler will be picked as a 3rd or 4th rounder in a couple of years but he'll more than likely be moved to SS in the NFL. at least that's what I'd do if he stays the same weight.

If Robertson can add the bulk which is a big if, he could be as early as a 2nd round pick just due to his measurables.

Right now though, all things being equal, next year we will more than likely have only two drafted players.. Calvin because I just don't see him coming back for his final year. I've been told he's scheduled to graduate in three which will make his mama feel good about letting him go pro. The other pick will be Anaoi.

Richards will be a pick in the 2007 season as a junior, because 1.) he's super smart and will probably graduate within that time, and 2.) He's going to be a monster at DT. This is as long as he stays healthy.

Gardner is currently 290 plus and was the strongest and had the best camp of any lineman this spring. I'd take any wager you'd wish to make on this one. Don't forget he was a freshman all -american so someone appreciates his skills.

Gardner was a Freshman All-American at LT. The last freshman AA we had at that position got drafted (Dorsey).

While I love what Anoai brings to the Tech D, he's too small to play DT in the draft. He's definitely too small to play DT in a 3-4, which cuts his draft stock considerably. He needs to show that he is quick enough to play end in the NFL. I don't know if he can do that.

With that said, D Richard has a chance to be a drafted DT. But he's got to stay healthy (remember Henderson and his injuries).

K Scott maybe. He's got good speed. However, he has to prove that he's all-ACC at the CB position. He has one year to do that. We'll see if he can. He didn't do it last year.

Kenny Scott has tremendous athlectic ability but so far it hasn't exactly showed up on the football field. His inability to be a heady kick returner comes to mind. Also he has been burned a little too much on touchdown passes. He is not a shut down cornerback. Perhaps he lacks the fluid hip moves that the scouts are looking for in corners and safeties.....The scouts burned a lot of DB's in their scouting reports.....as published on espn.com during the draft.

Scott also has made game saving plays such as against Clemson last year in the endzone.

You probably know this already, but a lot of times when you see the CB left behind a bit...they are playing catch-up because they were supposed to have safety help and it did not happen. This happened to Butler and Landry more than one would think the past two seasons.

When you run a defense that blitzes as much as ours, the CB's are going to be left out to dry more.

hivered: This isn't actually my judgement.....I'm trying to look at Scott and everyone else mentioned as I think these general managers and their scouts would. Whether I'm accurate is another story....but these scouts grade everything about everyone being considered for the draft. Much more so than I ever imagined. They identify every possible negative and positive element to a player. So I think that these scouts won't consider the absence of help from the safetys when judging the ability of a corner to cover. But they would hold it against the safety! Just my opinion.

Freshman all american lineman doesn't really tell you much because there aren;t many freshman lineman who start across the country. We had one a few years ago, cannot remember his name now, but he ended up not starting once Nat Dorsey came in, later got injured, and never did anything.

290 lbs is VERY small for an OT in the NFL and he's to tall and thin to play on the inside in the NFL. He's already added 45lbs or so to his frame since he's been here, so how much more can he take? He didn't really dominate anyone last year as I recall like Dorsey did a few years before.

I don't wish to make a bet against a GT player, but I think you are day dreaming if you think he is a sure shot to get drafted whenever that is. The odds are greatly stacked against him. But I wish him the best.

You could be right but he is still all of 19 or 20 years old? He still has time to add another 25 pounds.

He's now above the listed 6'6" and will be coming to fall camp at 300 lbs as a rs soph. As an ex basketball player he has great footwork which is also essential for a tackle. I'm not dreaming or getting second hand information. I watch him everyday at practice.

Hey, I'm not arguing that the young man is not talented. I'm glad we have him, but I would be amazed if he ever got over 300 lbs, because 1.) He's already put on a lot of weight 2.) Ive seen him up close and he doesn't look like he's over 290lbs. Do you remember Chris Brown? 1st team AA not freshman AA. I think he was one of the best OT's GT has ever seen. He was 6-6 315 lbs and had some of the best footwork. What was is draft status?

Or since we're so big on Freshman AA honors. How about John Bennett? Remember him. So like I said, I'm not going to wager against a GT player, but the odds are STACKED against him.

MB and I usually talk to his parents at practice and from time to time we talk with Andrew. The weight info came directly from them.

Teams like ATL and Denver love 290-310 offensive linemen that can move and beat DTs and DEs to the point of attack. "The Brick" Ferguson was only about 310 and got picked with the 4th OVERALL pick by the jets as the best Lineman in the draft. I'm not saying Gardner is quite that kind of player, but he will be plenty big enough by the time to draft comes around in 3 years.
