Ga Southern running a 'shotgun based 3O'

The Skee-gun! Muskegon High School runs our exact same offense except that they have the QB and BB in the pistol.

PJ doesn't like it because it makes the dive less quick-hitting. I think it's a good compromise that can be made to work but you have to be committed to more balance in run/pass.

The pistol formation and shotgun formation drive me batty in short yardage situations. The school from Florida that Cartersville just played ran exclusively shotgun formation. Early in the game, they had a 3rd and 1 on about the 3 yard line, ran a play from shotgun, lost yardage, and had to settle for a FG. Get damn under center and get a yard like a man instead of hiking it six yards back and trying to dance seven yards for a first down.

Yeah, the curious thing to me was that an ex Tech coach was going to run it.

What did he run at Cal Poly?

I would think its an entirely different blocking scheme for the OL. They'd have to hold blocks on DL for longer and would not be able to get to the second level.

This is what New Mexico runs under Bob Davie. They typically use 2 backs and a TE/FB who is blocker or receiver instead of a ball carrier.

They are probably going to use more of a zone blocking scheme, but it's pretty similar. Zone right is basically the same as veer left.

Haven't they been running that since Monken left?
No. They tried to run some other offense that sucked and so they fired that OC and hired Cook.

They were downright terrible last year. GSU put a beat down on them.

They had co-OCs last year. Bad plan all around. OL coach was pretty bad too and all three got shown th e door
Hearing a lot of good things about Cook from my Statesboro peeps

It is what B. Cook ran at Cal Poly... I am sure he has added to it from what he has learned from Coach Johnson
